Are there any non Lexus dealers who can do it safely?

Any good and reputable aircon specialist (not the Kwik-Fits and definitely not the Halfords of the world) should be able to do it.

The refrigerant gas is the same as any other car but the lubricating oil that goes in with the gas absolutely must be ND11 and definitely not PAG.

The AC compressor is driven by a 500V 3-phase AC variable frequency motor and the windings of the motor are cooled by immersion in the oil. ND11 is a high-dielectric oil that doesn't conduct electricity and is safe for the winding insulation. However, it's been shown that as little as 1% contamination by PAG oil will cause insulation breakdown and lead to either shorting between the windings or shorting between the windings and earth - in this case, that's the car body and a (slight) risk of electrocution. I say 'slight' because the hybrid system should shut down and isolate itself to prevent that from happening.

Ideally, an AC specialist will perhaps have two machines; one specifically for ND11 and one for PAG, to avoid cross-contamination.

In my opinion you're generally better off just taking it to Lexus to do especially with the minimal difference in cost. I think its £149 at Lexus Leeds and looking at ATS its £134 for the same gas.

Its very unlikely that you need a proper re-gas unless its got a leak somewhere by the way
