I'm searching my brain for the answer to this , as convinced a salesman at a dealer provided the answer to it. Why are some lexus dealer used car prices strange on certain used cars, example £31018 and £27697 yet other cars in stock have sensible rounded off numbers £27495 etc. The weird prices look like there on a lot of cars.

Maybe they're either taking the mick or just wanting to be different and make people think.

Some use auto-pricing which looks at the market and then adjusts accordingly.

Could be price from pricing guides for valuation i.e. they enter all the details and just get the price spit-out and they use that to price the car. And the valuation is never round number.

Sorry to hijack the topic but on a similar theme - why is petrol/diesel sold in silly .x of a penny? You can't pay that .x of a penny in cash or by card or by cheque, so why do they do it?

I was told that it's because oil is traded in Dollars but surely some other commodities/goods are also traded in Dollars and they don't do it. It's only the petrochem industry.
