Hi

I inherited a 2004 Lexus RX300 that is in in need of some TLC.

The air suspension on the passenger rear driver's side of the car  needs replacing. (When the engine is turned off, the automobile slides to one side; when the engine is turned on, the compressor kicks in and the car goes back up.)

I'm looking for a reliable source in the uk where I can buy a used air suspension.

Any advice pls?

thank you

Mark

When it comes to secondhand parts you basically have the choice of eBay and the like or scrapyards.

You may get a short warranty but if the replacement is as old as the one you remove it may not last and then another one pops.

The other alternative is to convert to conventional suspension.

As Steve says, convert to the lower spec shocks and springs, remove your three good air struts and sell them on eBay for more than the 4 standard ones will cost, you get reliable suspension and make some money....

Not forgetting the compressor as this item is also expensive so marketable if you swap to conventional springs.

thanks you for great advice. I have to make a few considerations because only last month the front 2 air shocks were replaced with second hand ones ( I was lucky not to did fork the bill)

Any idea if the spring suspensions would make the ride much harder compare to the air ones?

There's very little difference, which is why people get so narked about the price of replacement air parts.

As Herbs says, you can tell it's not on air but the ride is very acceptable, it's certainly not hard, but is still well controlled...
