Lexus Swindon Orange RCF

Recommended Posts

Honestly, they’ve been a bit poor on the after sales front. I notified them of the radar cruise issue 20 mins after collecting, I was fobbed off saying that it was likely “due to the rain”. It then took a week to get the car booked in.

I reported the new issues this morning (I was due to drop off the car today for the radar cruise repair), said I wasn’t going to be able to to do due to the aforementioned new problems. I mentioned that I was considering handing the car back.

The service person said that they would call me back, and that hasn’t happened.

Once one loses confidence in a car it becomes a disappointment.  I hope you get treated fairly. I think I would insist on them taking the car back ASAP not only because you don't know what else to expect from it but handing it back would put an end to the worry. Just my thoughts. Best of luck!

Sadly the RC-F I bought seems to be a bit of a lemon:

radar cruise broken, squeaky brakes, dumped transmission fluid over the exhaust and needed over half a litre of coolant in under 17 days.

The first two issue are annoying but can be resolved, the second two are much more concerning.

I’ve reported this to the dealer and am awaiting a call back.

Squeaky brakes are a thing but the rest, not aware of them being an issue.  Never personally had an issue with radar cruise and I daily mine approx 12k miles per year….

Seems a real shame and very rare of an RCF.  It may be worth you logging into the app as any Lexus work will show in the service/maintenance section.  It may also be worth asking them directly if it’s had any work done, either by themselves or others that they are aware of. Gives them a chance to be straight with you.  If they aren’t, just helps the argument to hand back.

You can be pretty sure when they bought it they would have done their due diligence so may have some info they are holding back.

The system was decent in my LC500 and I assume it’s very similar (if not the same), I get a flashing yellow PCS warning light and a clean radar sensor error after about 5 mins of use.

Ultimately I just want a working vehicle and one I can trust.

Just give it back, the damage is done. I hope you can get rid of it without too much trouble.  Good luck!

That's no good is it. I hope you get things sorted but it doesn't inspire any confidence does it.

I walked away from the Blue one they had because I wasn't getting a good feeling with the salesman's B/S I was getting. For instance "The wheels have been refurbed" No they hadn't and I pointed out scuffs and marks on 2 of them and the other 2 weren't much better.  "we'll have our on site wheel refurb guys do everything needed before collection" ........so you'll refurb all 4 wheels then.  "no just the worst one or two" ....and something about it not being a new car!  I sought detail on a couple other vague statements he blurted out and the reality didn't match his hype.  Having dealt with one guy on the phone multiple times and again on my arrival I was then fobbed off with the junior salesman for a test drive who knew nothing about the history of the car which I wanted to understand.  Id travelled over 100 miles to an appointment with them, due to their reputation, but was disappointed not only with the car but the service too.  Maybe its me being picky but I wasn't feeling the premium experience Id expect from a Lexus dealer so I simply took my money elsewhere and bought a better example privately.  I hope its just me and they're still up there with the best.

Hope you can get 100% satisfaction.

Reminds me of when our children were about six or seven years old. We always bought good shoes ( Clarks)  for them which were usually fine. One pair, however, started to come apart after about 4 weeks. We took them back to the shop where the manager brusquely informed us that " he's been kicking a ball with these shoes". I replied politely that he is six years old and kids do tend to kick things, plus all the other shoes were fine.  Result was a new pair. At that age shoes only lasted 6 months max anyway, as they grew out of them before they wore out.   Moral of the story is that if they don't treat you the customer right,🏈 vote (not kick a ball)  with your feet and go elsewhere.😼

From my experience, reject the car and get your money back. I had this with another Lexus dealership. Ended up going through the motoring ombudsman and won my case 5 years later. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. Sounds like standards have slipped at Swindon which is a shame.

That’s the plan, I spoke with the dealer manager late this afternoon and they will be arranging collection of the car to assess it.

Loosing coolant and dumping transmission fluid?

I know that older LSs had a radiator that had separate compartments for coolant and transmission fluid, and that it was important when they were 10 or 15 years old to replace the radiator in case corrosion let coolant under pressure push into and mix with the transmission fluid.

If that's happened here, it's likely that the transmission made simply need replacing. And it won't be good for the engine running with insufficient coolant.

Myself, I'd get a different person to look, check the fluid, so when it came to it, it wasn't just your word for it, and maybe make a video showing the lost coolant/fluid.

Then I'd just take the car back and give them the keys.

Sorry.
