Is 200 auto 1998 - 2005 downhill transmission?

Hi,

When traveling downhill in an IS 200 auto from 2005 earlier. Do you have to ride the brakes or will the car automatically control the speed?

Best practice would be to downshift for some engine braking rather than riding the brakes which could overheat and fade.

More likely an issue in the Alps than Suffolk, but still good practice,

Thanks for the response. This would be for the automatic version of the car. For example I would be comparing this to an s-tronic version of an automatic transmission in an Audi where it would stop the car accelerating on a downhill section whether suffolk or the alps.

A conventional automatic would simply detect very little load on the engine and would shift to the highest gear, that's why automatics have the option to select a lower gear in this situation.

I don't think the IS 200 has any clever gizmo to do otherwise.

Thanks for the info. If I break or lift off the gas in the Audi it automatically stabilizes the speed downhill. Its trying to find one that I can test drive relatively locally.
