I seem to have cracked the small piece of glass that the indicator sits in on the wing mirror, can that part be removed or is it a whole new wing mirror

Getting that piece off requires pulling the mirror glass off and it CAN break. Dont ask me how I know 🙂

Gently positioning a yellow duster behind the bottom of the mirror glass and out of the lower sides then giving it a firm tug normally releases the bottom clips and spreads the stress. Lifting the glass up and towards you will unhook the top fastenings and allow the glass to come out.

Putting a blanket or some cushions below the mirror provides additional safety but never had one just fly out.
