Hi Everyone,

I'm viewing an LS430 on Friday and the last two MOT's have registered two issues with corrosion. I wondered if anyone had any advice on what to look for?

The two advisories were as below:

- Vehicle structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))
- Cab or chassis corroded within 30cm of a mounting, but not seriously affecting overall security (6.2.2 (d) (i))

Any suggestions on what commonly goes on these, what the potential fixes are and the cost?

Thank you very much in advance!

Kind regards,
Adam

Had these advisories on my classic mini, until it failed the next year. Just got it back from extensive restoration cost ~ £7K.

It had holes in the floor and needed new sills/ subframe etc.

What that means on an LS I have no idea. Have a good prod underneath etc.

Thank you Paul - Appreciate the quick response. I fear it may have to be a pass on this one in that case. I'll do the viewing anyway and find out!

Adam hi .. I'm sure you must have seen the concurrent forum posts asking similar Qs about upcoming purchases of an Ls430 ?

Mot fail is if rust has compromised the integrity of the structure within 30 cm of suspension mounting or seatbelt mount .

If you are not a welder keep looking.

you may fix one area but the car has had its life.

Continue and you will become a financial expert on rust repair.

rusty brake pipes are a straightforward replacement.

If you already owned the car and knew it was good otherwise , then that is a different game.

Hi Both,

Thank you for the insight. It's greatly appreciated.

I had seen other posts regarding common issues, but only seen that the doors commonly rust not the subframe, suspension and brakes too.

I've always wanted one since my Dad brought one home from work brand new, so I shall keep on looking!

Thank you everyone.
