I think that was the point, hence the 1k budget, but it's interesting reading people's comments because the LS is by far the favourite!

Yeah, he got lucky with that particular S-class. Most of them (W220) are utter garbage in terms of reliability and online forums show that quite clearly.
He did get an LS that has been seriously unloved though. That said, I didn't think it was possible to get an LS for £1k.
