Spotted this video on YT with some Swedish royalty arriving at an airport, lead car is a silver Lexus (ES300h?) at around 2.30 in.

That's because Lexus don't build a car big enough to carry royalties possessions. We've said it for years, why didn't they build an LS estate?  Strangely enough, after owning various Lexus cars for about 14 years, my current Volvo XC60 is better than all of them, in my opinion of course. An absolute joy to drive and as safe as it gets!

The 200 series estate was the only Lexus estate I believe? Madness that mostly saloon and SUV. I like estates. Had a Volvo 740, 5 years then 240 10 years then current 96 940 for 5 years. Had a Lexus IS220D that was a mistake and now have a Toyota Auris Hybrid Estate.

I suppose with Lexus can just buy a Corolla estate. I do like Lexus interiors though.

My relative leases Volvo XC60 and on her third. Loves them. Husband has a V90. Had a  Jag E pace and a few BMW 320D and 740I but go back to Volvo.

I have no experience of owning a Volvo but on past experience interior build quality and finish on the S90 saloon definitely a cut below the GS and the dealership was several levels below Lexus and not luxury, enough to put off a customer. May have improved by now and caught up.

I'd love a new Volvo V90 but can't afford one and do not see them as reliable as a Toyota/Lexus. My relative runs his own manufacturing company so can keep a car 2-3 years and lease another. Thus under manufacturers warranty. I do like the old models and provide reliable transport that is easy to work on .

XC90 no one has died in one. Volvo invented the 3 point seatbelt and didn't patent the design as felt morally wrong to do so.

I was lucky enough to get a 2012 XC60 from a wealthy customer of mine with only 36k on the clock and a main dealer service record for every year. Plus it has many thousands of pounds worth of extras. For those reasons it drives like a new car but still has the excellent 2.4 five cylinder diesel engine, probably one of the best engines Volvo made.

Sounds good. Relatives love their D5. Used to do 40,000 miles a year in some of his Volvo's drumming up business for his manufacturing company and 35 employees. Not sure on the engine on the V90 estate but suspect diesel. Started in 1999 with his first Volvo a V70. Loved it and had it 10-15 years.

Like you I've had Volvos for some time and found them to be great cars. I'm not sure if the latest offerings will stand the test of time. The one I sold last year was a V70 D5, a brilliant car which thankfully I sold to my brother and he loves it!

Does Lexus have a special projects division for bullet proof cars etc like some manufacturers?

I always said new ES would be great for premium taxi/airport transfers, just not a drivers car.

Most bulletproof cars are modified by specialised companies, very few manufacturers actually does it themselves. I am aware Lexus make special projects from time to time like cabrio LS600h, but it isn't really normal.

I owned an S80 in the mid 2000's and it was a supremely comfortable car. Only had it a matter of days when a neighbours car careered into it badly damaging both nearside doors🙁 whilst the offending car had a few scratches on the bumper! Their cars handbrake had not been fully applied!

Never felt quite the same about the car thereafter.

Only other thing I remember wss that servicing was relatively expensive.
