Thanks for the reply! It is very helpful as it would be my first time buying a car actually. I am just going for the 350h 2WD premium plus with pan roof. The posted price is £44,580. It has drastically increased in price in just a year. What starting price should I initially present to them with that price point? Thanks again!

How comfortable are you with that posted figure?  I don't really know enough about this model to suggest a figure, but are you PX-ing another car?  Are you paying cash or credit?  Do you have a specific Dealer in mind.  Are you flexible as regards exterior colour and interior trim?  If so, that's attractive to a Dealer as it enables them to offer a cancelled order, for example.

Of course, having made all these points to the Dealer, you could just say 'So what's your best price?'  Which puts the ball back in their court!

I did put your car specs into AutoTrader and there are some alternatives around that might give you some indication.  Armed with that information, you can propose a deal.

New & Used Cars for Sale - Auto Trader UK

Another approach - as you have a very clear idea of the car you want - is to investigate the web sales specialists, such as CarWOW.

Unfortunately, I think the new car market is such that it's not the Buyer's market it once was.  You'll probably get better suggestions as to an actual price from someone else, but remember - just saying 'I'd like to go away and think about it' can also be an effective negotiating tactic!

Good Luck!

Some dealers are reluctant to discount the NX but if you have a p/x you should focus on the cost to change amount & not the purchase price of the new car.

When  I was negotiating my deal early in the year, after being offered a pretty decent price for my p/x, I was asked what was needed to clinch the sale. I said, a little tongue in cheek at the time, £1500 more on the p/x and 2 years free servicing since free servicing has a value to me for very little cost to the dealership. After a 5 minute discussion between the salesperson and his manager, the manager came to me and said “I can’t stretch to a further £1500 on your p/x but if I gave you an extra £1000 and 3 years free servicing would that be acceptable?”

Value to me was almost the same so I agreed

Sadly, I don't have a car to P/x but that is great advice RxtoNx! You definitely got them on your deal! 😄

If you don't feel confident in negotiating with dealers take a look on YouTube some good advice there 😎

I have been watching videos on youtube and I find them quite helpful. It was just hard for me to find a starting price to haggle with. One dealer has already told me that they cannot give discounts. I am waiting for another dealer now.

Try getting a confirmed price on autoebid then ask dealers to match it.

I used Carwow when buying minme a couple years ago.

Walked into the local dealer, showed them the best price Carwow Lexus dealers nationally had to offer.
Without too much hassle walked away with £8k discount.

At the time the phase-2 was two years away, and sales were up for Lexus, but still got a great deal.

It really depends on the dealer, some are very short sighted.

When I brought my CT a local Lexus dealer had a nice car in stock, which I was interested in but it was overpriced. Tried to negotiate and when asked, even showed them evidence from the Lexus web site of the price being asked by other Lexus dealers. Would not move, manager and Directors, no movement in price, so I walked away.

Went to another dealer across the Country and got a much higher spec car for about £1500 less and many extras included.

Stupid loss of a sale on their part.

Remember the look on the salesman face when I turned up for my first service with the car.

Should have treated me as a serious buyer!

Be prepared to walk away.

Oh my gosh!  I can't imagine ever doing that to a new car.

I have a loathing for squeaks and rattles in cars and I'd be terrified I'd introduce one.

No criticism intended, it's your car and you can do what you want with it.  More a recognition of my own very limited DIY skills.

Nor would I ever dream of doing that even to an old car. I used to feign headaches when anyone gave me a present of Meccano, or Lego, or a Jigsaw, or latterly a self assembly domestic kit !🤣🤣🤣

Pigs might fly DC !

I was able to talk to 3 dealers. One told me that they could not give me any discount at all. The other one offered me a discount of only £100. The last one gave me a discount of around £2k plus £1k more for getting a finance with them.
