I believe that would be CXIV pence and IV/X of a pence or whatever Romans used I think Bronze asses (not making that one up) 😁

Not defending the cali population, but your math is off: 5.699/3.785(US gal to L)*0.76(USD to GBP current conversion) = £1.144 per liter

You are slightly missing the point my friend but in support of your pursuit of pedantics English vocabulary tends to use the term mathematics or maths 👍

Unusual post, Malc, and intellectually taxing.   MCXXXXIV pence will buy you X liters and, as Peniole says, CXIV (with the last pence rounded down) would buy you I liter if the pump is calibrated to dispense it.  It is not easy, and maybe impossible, to draw a meaningful parallel between present-day Californian economics and those of any particular era of Ancient Rome, but I would reckon that the ancients were no less likely to complain about the price of a kilo of horse feed than Californians about a gallon of gas.

I think, Renato, that by identifying the almost insurmountable complexities that they would have faced in developing a practical pump for dispensing fuel, you may have explained the total absence of any signs of the internal combustion engine in Ancient Rome.😊

Indeed, can it really just be coincidence that where you find most petroleum deposits, you also find Arabic numerals?

Just saying…..

Libra (as per Phil above) = Roman Pound, not the 12-ounce Troy one sometimes erroneously thought to be named after the ancient city.  As a unit of measurement for transportation fuel, one libra of Etruscan-grown oats might have provided a small Roman donkey with a quick snack.

Just as well it did, Malc, since the ancients may also have used it for other less mentionable purposes.

kg / gms to lbs and ozs     and ltrs to pints .... and fuel pump gallons ......  and I suppose we'll see a proper return to mpg too

BUT I do wholly concur that the illustrious CROWN is to be returned to 1 pint glasses .....  and half pints too ?

My wife felt that her boobs were to small and ask me if she could have a boob job to make them bigger

i told her that if she grabbed a handful of toilet paper and rubbed it up and down between her breasts it would make them bigger.

so she grabbed a handful of toilet paper and rubbed it up and down between her breasts,

nothing happened she exclaimed

you have to do it every day for twenty years I replied

twenty years she exclaims, will it really work

well it worked on your Arse didn’t it

A few stolen from another forum.

I bought a map from Bono. It’s rubbish. All the streets have no name and I still haven’t found where I’m looking for.

My mate does backing vocals.

It’s his voice you hear on the “This vehicle is reversing” message.
