Lexus cars are known for their quietness from the outside as well as the inside so we owners need not be overly concerned with the "noise radars" currently being installed in Paris.  They are planned for other French cities and, if successful at reducing noise pollution and generating revenue from fines (take your pick of intended priorities), will no doubt quickly be adopted in other countries.  Apparently, this fiendish piece of technology photographs motorists exceeding fixed decibel limits (which includes the sounding of horns) and, when the system comes into operation in Paris later this year or in 2023, will hit them with a fine of €135 per offence.

I liked in one of the articles how the U.K. Transport Secretary (?-Former) described the devices as "exciting".

It would be interesting to see how this would work on busy street i.e. how could they tell what was source of noise? I can imagine it may work fine on a quieter street and I guess that is fine to have them there, but very unlikely to work near bigger road.

Are these classed as busy streets?

"Since then, the Council has issued fines to 144 drivers caught racing or revving in Sloane Street and Pont Street."

Not really. They are rather narrow one lane streets, so I can imagine when camera is triggered and there is only one super car on the street, then it is possible to attribute the fine... but if they there would be 5 of them... who get's the fine? Or if you just sitting in your Ferrari and motorbike flies by and you get the fine. I think it is just difficult to prove legally. I would certainly fight it in court and I would give high chance of beating it. The ones which were issued are most likely because mega rich Arabs in Sloane Square could not be bothered to challenge them.

Not just Lexus but any other make of vehicle will pass the test unless they have been “played with” by somebody, every vehicle has to pass a drive by noise test to pass legislation before sale.

What will be of concern is older vehicles which never had to pass the test in during development.

Noise radars? Jeeez what ever next. Whoever sets these up better get it right 1st time coz all he'll will break loose. I'm not an advocate of modified vehicles, I am however still a believer in Loud Pipes Save Lives. Anyone who disagrees has never been a biker.
