Tail Lights Condensation

I recently had a 2021 UX250h as a courtesy car.  It had done about 24000km and was generally in good condition.  I noticed that each of the tail lights had three or four droplets of water clinging to the inside of the upper surfaces.  I duly pointed this out when I returned the car, and the workshop supervisor appeared genuinely surprised.   Be this as it may, I would suggest owners keep an eye out for a potential issue while the cars are still under warranty.

Huh; that is surprising. I certainly didn't have that on my last UX, I'll keep an eye out on my new one...

I had condensation in one cluster at one point and sent a picture to my dealer. He said there was nothing to worry about and you have a warranty anyway. Disappeared the next day never to be seen again, the condensation that is!

Condensation is a strange thing, and it might well come and go before disappearing or staying.  I confess I tend to check for it in my lights more often than is strictly necessary.  This is because I have experienced it in headlights on three occasions:  once in an IS200, when it seriously discoloured the metallic lining, and once in each of two IS250s, less severely but still irritatingly.   Luckily, the cars were all under warranty when it happened, and the groups replaced no questions asked.

Moisture in car lights is not common but not unknown, the fact is unless the light unit is hermetically sealed containing only a dry gas it will contain moisture as does all ambient air and condensation will come and go with temperature. that is assuming it is not a faulty unit that actually leaks in water (as distinct from vapour)

Typically the lights should have a barrier to allow moisture out, so they should dry out. The issue is this can take a long time with LEDs not giving off heat, unlike the old incandescent lamps.

A few drops isn't an issue. If the lenses have too much water though you can get pulled over by the police.

Yes i spotted condensation on mine. Took it to the dealer who said lexus had not heard of this before. They changed them under warranty. When i got the car back no sign of any condensation. I have seen it again but it goes away.

Just been to Lexus dealer with RX450h takumi with rear right tail light with condensation problem brought the car new from this dealer 2021 just done over 8000 miles told by the manager this is not covered under warranty and wanted £600 to replace said light so the warranty they offer you is a waste of space and money Lexus  going to loose a long standing customer not impressed.
