Hi everyone,

I purchased a 69 plate ES300h Takumi (will be delivered on Sunday 😍), I was wondering if I need to purchase a shield to protect the catalytic converter from being stolen. My friend has a CT200 and his was stolen last year.

Also is there anything else I need to know about the car?

Thank you

Supposidly no. However, the GS wasn't known to have theirs stolen either, but we already have a member on here reporting that his recently has been. If you do get a shield, please update us on how/where/cost. Thanks.

You can find a full manual online, the paper one that comes with the car is a shortened version.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum!

It depends on your location more than anything.

We have had 5 hybrid cars in the family for a couple of years and none had their cat pinched.

If you have the money, why not, but work it out from the likelihood of theft due to parking location during the day and night!

Don't forget to brag about the hollowed out noise reduction alloys!

Are you new to hybrids?

Thank you peniole. I will try and find out and will post it here.

-Error- I had a Honda Insight before, it was ok. You can't use it in full EV mode. I used to have a Lexus IS200 (2000 model). The engine was so reliable.

Thought the likes of an ES had a tilt function in the alarm system as I'm guessing any thief would need to jack the side of the car up to gain access with his/her powered hacksaw, the car seems  too close to the ground to cut  off  a cat or am I talking nonsense?   I can see a 4x4 vehicle being  easy pickings given their height off the ground.

Yes all true, exactly the same for the CT (very low to the ground with tilt switch), but it does not stop them.

If the alarm does go off you still have the look out armed with a baseball bat to consider, if you did manage to dodge that and kick the jack out then no doubt you would be facing a murder charge.

More likely to be manslaughter charge.

There appears to be no official CatLoc device for the ES? Could not find it on the website. ES not a target in the same way the Prius is. In most areas I am sure you would be fine without it.
