Brake lights in cruise?

Another thread on here has lead me to ask this. When in cruise control with radar assist on and another vehicles cuts in front then slows down, does my brake lights come on as my car automatically slows down to match the speed? I've never thought to look.

I would have thought so, if the car brakes the brake lights illuminate or someone may rear end the car.

As I assume the brake lights are switched on by a pressure switch I would say yes.

There would be no pressure during regenerative braking? Which would be used during this phase of speed adjustment/maintenance?

It depends how hard it needs to decelerate - if within a normal rate associated with just lifting your foot of the accelerator in a normal non-hybrid then no, if above then yes.

 

Deceleration Control Function

• The driving support ECU assembly calculates the target deceleration rate in accordance with signals from the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly, forward recognition camera and transmits a deceleration request signal to the hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly. Upon receiving this signal, the hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly performs engine, MG2 and brake control in order to cause the vehicle to decelerate.

• This control is not performed in the presence of a parked vehicle or object or below the settable vehicle speed range.

• If the driving support ECU assembly determines that further deceleration is necessary, it transmits a brake request signal to the skid control ECU assembly. Upon receiving this signal, the skid control ECU assembly then activates the brake actuator to apply the brakes.

• At this time, if the deceleration rate is higher than a predetermined value, the skid control ECU assembly outputs a stop light illumination request signal to the stop light control relay in order to inform anyone who might be following the vehicle.

Thanks, could understand the gist of it, just not the specifics.

Yes the brake lights come on under certain ACC-commanded braking. I believe there is a regulatory requirement for this as well above a certain level of deceleration.
