if the engine/gearbox is cold the car will hold 5th for a while. when it gets all warmed up it will shift to 6th. also noticed that when cold the gearbox holds gears for longer and at higher revs than when at operating temp - probably to bring it up to temp quicker?

This makes a lot of sense

worry over although I have found a good local auto transmission company

£20 diagnostic check and test drive

Excellent John. When you're there ask if they know of as good an auto specialist as them in the North West. Cheers 🍻

I will ask, next week I will take it there. No need to book either.
also if they find a problem my extended warranty will cover it the. The question is do I get them to repair or get Lexus 🤔

I think Extended Warranty only covers costs at Lexus, somehow I can't remember there being any provision for Third Party repairs.

You may be right, I can't remember there being such clause and now when you go to check T&C it just takes you to "Lexus Relax".

Yes there’s no longer extended warranty,

lecus have cancelled their contracts and now have the relax.

not sure I will be able to go onto that after my extended warranty ends in January 2023

No you won't and that kind of suck... for Relax it has to be 10years/100k miles whichever comes first. I think Lexus is considering to reintroduce 140k/15year extended warranty (at least that is what they imply with some questions in their owners survey), but it remains to be seen. Relax really doesn't make much sense for anyone who maintain their cars relatively well - Lexus is very unlikely to to break-down before 10k miles or 10 years old.

Well I have one free mot left.
mid they won’t offer the relax or extended warranty then I won’t be getting them to be doing the service as it’s only a oil change, pollen filter key fob Battery £300.

To be honest it still works out quite competitive, unless you do it yourself and keep no record of it. As well don't forget about Essential Care discount - works out around £400 for 2 years of service. Yes you right, they only do filters, oils and basic stuff but it just serves as good check over for the car and you can't get it better in places like Halfrauds, Kwiktheft or even generally reasonably good ATS. Besides I don't trust Halfrauds to check my car, not even to refill the oil...

Yes I would just do it myself. Very easy simple quick and genuine parts very affordable. Hahah very tire about the others although i do use kwikfit for 4 wheel alignment which I bought the fro check 2years 6 checks £100

Halfords for certain parts as they very competitive now but never would I allow them touch my car 😂 I do everything for myself even on the Lexus. Although I’ve had so much work done. cost me a ridiculous amount one changing both sides of the brake pipes front to back costing over £1080 die to heavy corrosion.

Yeah, I would only use Lexus for service, but never for any other work, because their hourly rates are set for cars costing £50k, not £5k.

Makes me wonder if they put Toyota Type IV in not the correct WS fluid!

What was the reason for the previous transmission fluid change, any prior problems?

Regarding the gear change, keep in mind that the car also has position sensors. When driving in auto mode, it may not shift to a higher gear if you're driving uphill as it needs higher RPM to maintain speed, but will shift when the road evens out.
