I agree James. I like my son who also has an ES.  We have had many “admiring glances”  it is a great looking car, I think anyway.  If I’m being smug and egotistic, I plead guilty.

Okay. What did this mean then - Getting a little bored know mate with all this Linas p malarkey.  My post was having a joke with James, which he understood. What did that have to do with my post. Confused.

I think the ES is a great looking car as well.

Sorry if I inserted in wrong order.

No problem, that makes more sense now.

Having recently been through the process of choosing, testing and buying, while worth considering, reviews are simply somebody else's opinion.

I've just ordered an ES. I set out with flexibility looking at Audi A5, A6, BMW 3,4 or 5 Series, and the VW Arteon. Volvo were just not available to order.

When you take out the cars which take forever to be delivered, have poor owner reviews, have huge overall running costs and depreciation,  cost lots more than the advertised cost appears to be due to additional packs to match up a desired specification,  - the ES starts to look like a good option.

I almost ordered a VW Arteon, but was very underwhelmed after a test drive. I also noticed the mpg was nowhere near advertised. The Arteon was a very comfortable and attractive car, albeit without a heated steering wheel or reverse camera - come on VW, why leave it out? The VW financing wasn't great either with high APR rates and conditional discounts which priced the Arteon overall considerably higher than the ES turned out to be, before fuel consumption and depreciation was even considered.

Despite the ES not being a serious contender for me to begin with, after testing the ES, the tables turned. The Arteon was no longer featured so much in my consideration. The quality difference is tangible along with the difference in standard equipment. The Lexus is on another level, backed up with reliability and upfront extended warranty commitments from Lexus. The most surprising element was the drive of the ES. Despite the press reviews, I found the ES a much better drive than expected. I wasn't underwhelmed. The combination of comfort, quiet and quality provided a different experience to the VW, which to me was, overall, an improvement over the VW.

Additionally, the dual clutch gearboxes bother me. I don't trust them for reliability and therefore extended warranty is something to be considered. Lexus definitely wins with this in every way.

I just wish Lexus made the ES with a lift back option and foldable rear seats. The shape of the car looks like it would work okay. The Arteon was more practical in this respect.
