Hi, New to Lexus, just bought a ES300h, my question is, shoukd I leave it in drive when stood at lights etc ?

I changed from a XJ, if I was stood at lights or 'T' junction for a long time, I would put it into 'N' until ready to move off. This is because it was a Automatic transmission, should I do this with a CVT ?

As it says in the owner's handbook, leave in D unless stopped for a long time.

NEVER shift to N as the car cannot recharge the traction Battery in neutral.

I use the hold button by the gear lever if I am going to be waiting more than a few seconds, not sure if it’s across the entire range

In Hybrids don't use N if not necessary. Use HOLD with D or P.

Extensive waiting times in D with the Hold function activated  will ultimately bring up a warning on the dash about putting the transmission into Park.  I think it was around 10 mins or less, not sure before it appeared  when I pulled into a layby to take a phone call.   I'm not sure why the car's software thought it prudent to suggest this but there must have been a reason.

However as NemesisUK  said  never shift into N with the engine running.  This from the manual   If the shift lever is in N, the hybrid Battery (traction battery) will not be charged even when the engine is running. Therefore, if the vehicle is left with the shift lever in N for a certain period of time, the hybrid Battery (traction battery) will discharge, and this may result in the vehicle not being able to start

After looking at a video on you tube on show the actual electric motors and gear wheels inside the gearbox, and how the work together,  I now just leave it in 'D'. I have just come from Jaguars, they are torque converter boxes which shoukd not be left in drive, hence the original question.

If you have a HOLD function then this avoids you having to keep foot on the brake pedal as well as not annoying the car behind, especially at night.

Just my 2p worth.

The hold function on my GS keeps the brake lights lit!

Oh! Perhaps I’ve gone more gaga than I thought.

I’ll check next time I take the car out.

Hold definitely keeps brake lights on, in an ES.

Sorry for writing tosh.
