Hi there,

Been struggling to fix the fault on my 2005 RX400H SE CVT which has the Check VSC System errors on the dash (pic below) and the fault code

C1253 Hydroboost motor pump relay fault when scanned.

We fitted a couple of second hand ABS pumps but the codes just got worse showing:

Scanner - Antilock Brakes - DTC List

C1203 - Engine Control System Communication Circuit Fault

C1253 - Hydro Boost Pump Motor Relay Fault

C1256 - Accumulator Low Pressure Fault

C1345 - Linear Valve Offset Not Learned

My local Lexus specialist is stumped and he said it would be best to get Lexus to diagnose the problem.

Lexus Croydon have now diagnosed it and say it is the skid control ECU and have quoted £2600 + fitting.(!)

(they tried swapping the relay first in with the diagnostics fee)

My question is if the skid control ECU is coded to the car or if I can fit a second hand unit?

If it is coded can anyone recommend a specialist who can do the coding or is that Lexus main dealer only?

London/SE area.

Help appreciated.

regards, Gerald.

I don't know for sure but I would guess it's probably coded, those are typically code-once things so after the initial programming it can't be reused. You could try looking at the ECU repair places, I don't have one to recommend but it could be something as simple as a blown cap on the board which would be easily fixed by a specialist.

I just wonder if the relay it's complaining about is on the ECU board. Maybe if an electronics guru can replace the relay it would all be hunky-dory again, saving over 2 grand.

Reminds me of when I repaired the ABS unit on my old Volvo. The wires to the pump had dry joints ( a know fault with them) so I cracked the case open and resoldered the wires and was back to normal within hours. The quote from Volvo for the ABS unit was about the same too.
