I recently had to replace bank 1, sensor 1.  My local mechanic found an aftermarket sensor would not work ie cancel engine management light. I had to buy one from

Lexus at considerable cost.  It  worked when fitted.  The Lexus parts guy indicated that this was not uncommon with certain parts. Anyone know why this is the case?

I'n not certain what is the truth here:

A mechanic local to me would'nt an aftermarket sensor to my previous one because of the reason you have mentioned above.

The previous owner of my current 430 fitted a cheap sensor and it has worked fine.

I have read that some code reading machines upset the Lexus electrics causing the EML to come on - whch could be the problem as opposed to the actual part.

You don't need to buy one from Lexus, but I'd stick with Denso who are the OEM.

People trying to use a common O2 sensor when the upstream sensor is a more expensive an air/fuel ratio type has been the biggest problem as they are not compatible. But even when the correct type is used some non Denso sensors have caused intermittent fault codes.

As usual I would go straight to Rockauto who will sell you a Denso sensor for far less than a main dealer would, and even with shipping and taxes you would save so much.
