Brake pipes corroded mot failure

So my car is at Lexus they have advised me my brake pipes are corroded and bubbling up. 
they have quoted me to repair this costing over £1000 as it’s 6 Hours labour.

i currently have Lexus extended warranty. 
would the warranty group cover this ??

Well I don't know for sure and I suppose the only people who do know are the warranty people, so you really need to ask them. I was just going off the fact that anything going rusty after 12 years can't really be said to be faulty.

There is a condition about external impact damage, so if stones have chipped away the coating and allowed the steel to rust they have a get out clause. But if they are that bad and in multiple places then it cannot be all stone chip damaged and should be covered under warranty.

If not then go to an independent for advise, they may just be able to rub down and paint for a fraction of the price of fitting new pipes.

In my experience using the Extended Warranty ask your Lexus dealer and they will liaise with the warranty company - no need for you to contact the warranty company directly. If corroded brakes pipes are an MoT failure then I think they may be covered on the Lexus Extended Warranty. Have a read of the T&Cs and let the Lexus dealer know you have Extended Warranty and see what they say (they may already know you have Extended Warranty but in my experience they sometimes don't check before telling you about work that is needed so you have to remind them).

Yes they know I have extended warranty first thing they said and I have free mots too. 
i read the small print of the warranty

Also if ot did fail it would have to be in a real bad way to fail it, as an MOT tester brake pipes can be a grey area. Have a read of this from the manual, if it's not sweating though or leaking it's pretty much a pass because how can you ever determine how much is actually corroded.

either way it will be best to get it done but if its not bad and the tester has been a little harsh it might just need a simple clean up of surface corrosion and coating in grease or painting for protection.

If advised they might not do anything about it, if its a fail them speak to them and ask the question if its covered.

Lexus MOT tester said it’s an instant failure but luckily hasn’t logged on and my mot doesn’t run out till mid January

So you got the brake calipers exchanged under warranty recently? Just how recently? Because I'd have thought they'd have seen the condition of the brake pipes and notified you then of their condition. 

Personally I don't trust any Lexus dealer to do a MOT. 

Take your car to an Independent garage, get them to get your car on a lift and have a look for yourself. Yes brake pipes go and look rusty but define rusty enough to be a MOT failure. That's where I don't trust Lexus. 

Example when I first got my car and got it to Lexus for service and MOT. They got back to me they'd Not MOT it as they'd fail it for a weeping rear shock absorber. I was surprised. Took it to Halfords and that weeping wasn't actually weeping. It was established oil residue and no weeping what so ever. Lexus just wanted me to pay Them for new shockers. No chance. Halfords did it.

This year an advisory for what they said was a split suspension bush. No detrimental effects to operation of suspension by the way, no side to side excess movement etc.

This is my worry, 

that they are just trying to rip me off. 
i had look myself while it was in a ramp but didn’t look that bad to me also he was standing in the way. 
this is my 3rd mot by Lexus but at different branch. 
i don’t trust them, but 6 hours to change brake pipes is a bifnjob if it doesn’t need doing. Brakes are everything on a car. Just not sure why or how that would do this to me. 
mom just hoping the warranty group will cut ver as it’s £1200 in total to do it . So annoyed

Eh up John. So o lying last month your brake calipers exchanged and they didn't bother looking at the rest of the system. Absolutely disgraceful and a lack of care to the customer. 

By all means check that the extended warranty will pay for the brake lines to be changed and if not an independent for sure. Good luck with the warranty.

I had a very similar thing with my IS250 F Sport when I first got it. The MOT stated something to the effect of corrosion or grease substance covering brake pipes. See my post belpw

After showing fellow members, they advised my vehicle looked absolutely fine and because its a high mileage motorway miles car this seemed fairly normal. After taking it to a Lexus specialist local to me I asked them about this and they just told me its oil or grease on it and the brake pipes are absolutely fine, some MOTs can be quite over zealous but mine cleared absolutely fine. I've attached my latest MOTs and notice the third one mentions corroded brake pipes but this has been cleared now as of my latest MOT under my ownership. 

You definitely need a second impression, I wouldn't take what the LEXUS dealer say at their word as they want to make some money! Take it to a toyota / lexus specialist closest to you and see what they have to say.

just why. I’m worried they are trying to bring the wool over my eyes. 
£1200 to change both brake line pipes. 
They were insistent I left the car with them as well.

As I said above, go to any garage that is known to be good (ask family members for recommendations etc) and if necessary, they'll do the job at a much reduced price compared to a main dealer.

It may be a Lexus but it's 'just a car' with a braking system like millions of other cars.

So far you've only mentioned the labour charge and not the cost of the replacements, but if the new parts are also extortionately priced, I think I'm right in saying that you can even get your own made up at any branch of http://pirtek.co.uk

John, I can't believe brake pipes, corroded or not, and probably not tbh.........  to replace fully isn't anything but a relatively simple, but knowledgeable procedure that very very many competent mechanics can do ......... it's unlikely to be all of the brake pipes whatever 

suggest you find a simple ordinary local garage and ask them to look at, assess and give you a sensible quote to replace any brake pipes that need sorting out

you may be hopefully and pleasantly surprised ....  fingers xd               your Lexus Dealer is surely just taking the peeeee:whistling:

This is exactly what I think they are doing to. But can’t be sure. 
they insisted I leave the car with them too. It’s been there since Saturday. 
they said to replace all the pipes left and right and now said £1085 with a £100 discount. 
 

I’ve now sent them a long email to explain and justify the corrosion and state why ?

Interesting video as I had the same problem a couple of years ago.

Now, I tend to do all my own maintenance so got my wheels off and had a good look at these bits of pipe. I figured that if they were really bad I would just cut out a small section and make a new piece with Kunifer brake pipe and new joining fittings because it was only the uncoated bits that were "corroded"

After a good clean with some emery cloth, I reckoned they were not that bad afterall so painted these exposed bits with thick black Hammerite type paint.

It went in for the MOT the year after and there was no mention at all of corroded brake pipes. There is no way that I would let Lexus charge £1000 because 2 bits of 2 inch long pipe had some surface rust. As has been said, any competent mechanic could replace those bits of pipe for comparatively "bugger all"

They said they will replace front to rear both sides and remove fuel tank and lots more and take 6-8 hours.
