Sold mine. Not sure what I’m going to buy next but it won’t be a Lexus as I’ve had enough of hybrids for a while. Will manage with one car until I find what I’m looking for. When I’ve decided that is 😀

I have had two V8 powered cars and I would like to get another whilst I still can. It would need to be my second car though and will have to wait until I retire.

Wise words.  I used to enjoy motor cycling on and off road and in competition but gave up when raising a family, with view to buying another road bike when I retired.  Eventually did this but found bike too heavy so just remains unused in garage.  Wish I had got the bike earlier and had use out of it.  Same principle,  do things while you can or the opportunity may be lost.

And the one thing I really wanted to do was to get rid of my NX300H. Whilst it is a very nice car it does nothing for me in terms of driving enjoyment so I intend for my next car to be much more enjoyable. Had an unbelievable offer for my NX and it seemed a good time to do it.

No Ed. Have looked at some but they do leave me a bit cold. If I was younger and still self-employed I’m sure I’d have an i-Pace. I’ve driven one fairly extensively and it was impressive but oh so expensive.

I know somebody who has one. They love it in some ways but loathe it in others. He is determined to keep it through the Winter, but is finding the range in cold weather coupled with the poor availability of charging when on the move very difficult.

Spoke with him last week. It’s supposed to have a c250 mile range, but fully charged it was showing only 170 with air con used etc. He had a 150 mile round trip and ended up keeping to 60mph to conserve range but still needed to stop. There was a three hour queue to use the only two working chargers…he said his patience was severely tested but he is going to plan better and see if he can make it work. I think his main frustration is that - he says - the dealership assured him it would do 200 miles easily even in cold weather and it doesn’t. There’s a lot of ‘Tesla regret’ as he nearly went that way just for the range…

V8s once tried never forgotten.   I know they are gas guzzlers, but with my (maybe retirement) in a few years, to me it makes sense to keep my 400 going as I will not be doing that much driving when retired, but a car that can do 400+ miles on a tank will mean I can get to Dundee in comfort and silence.

Not quite sure about hybrids, been in a few, Honda and Lexus, just seems to me not so good when milege is low and you are lugging around a lot of Battery.

If I had to leave Lexus it would have to be another Jap car, or possibly Volvo but 13 years of LS driving is hard to give up.

Quite simply, if I had to leave my present Ls400 ...........  write-off ( again .... hahaha ... just a Cat N now ) or whatever well, I'd just buy myself another one . preferably another Mk3 methinks ...  glass headlamps etc

I might be tempted by a hydrogen Lexus tho' come the time BUT at age 72 next month I think my aspirations could be a tad limited

Yes agreed Ed. That’s not great is it. You only have to read the car mags to see the challenges they have with charging. It’s ok for road testers because driving around and charging up and writing about it is what they do for a living. For us, a car is still a means of getting from A to B. I see so many electric cars pootling along at 60 in the nearside lane of a motorway and I’m sure this is to maximise range.

No doubt that sales are outstripping the speed at which new chargers come on stream so the problem will get worse before it gets better. If ever.

Had a 4.4 V8 BMW X5. We towed a caravan down to Bridport. 160 miles at 15.9 mpg! A great car though. Later I had a 5.0 V8 Jaguar XF. What a car. The only car I wish I’d kept. I could get 32mpg on a motorway run and it had massive performance. Have been thinking of buying a cheaper runabout and put an XK 5.0 V8 in the garage for weekends / occasional use. Have also been thinking ISF.
