Hi all

Just seen Liverpool Lexus have a sonic silver GS-F 18 plate up for sale shade under £50k, guess values are on the up, WBAC offered me £29k for my 18 plate 300h up from £27500 a couple of weeks ago reflected in the dealer prices likewise (won't be selling the F or H I must add) what's going on!!!

£49,979 for a GSF ? Im sorry but that is a complete and utter ***** take (£20k more than last year). That can't be seen as anything else but that, and for £50k a GSF wouldn't be my car of choice

Chip shortage, greedy dealers maximising on profits.

Totally agree. That’s approaching LC500 money - a far superior car! Of course - you might want 4 doors, but for £50k…… much better metal out there!

Crazy prices...I wouldn't now have my Aug 2017 GSF if it was even in the same price league when I bought it with 19500k miles 22 months ago!

I notice that 66 plate RX450H luxury are going for way way more than what I traded mine for with well under half the mileage. Bizarre pricing at the moment!!

Tempting to sell and just use my honda civic runabout until prices come back to a sensible level which they almost surely will 🤔

LC500 / R35 / Quadrifoglio would be my first choices without researching the bracket.

Tbh in this climate of next to nothing interest rates I'm kinda happy I've got something of a rareity that is appreciating somewhat, admittedly maybe in the short term...

£50k, its a bargain. Should be at least double that. 2016 black ones should also command a premium over that too.

Someone mentioned the Guilia QF, a mate has just bought a 69 plate v low milage alfa red one. Awesome car, performance and dynamics are fantastic. We went out in the GSF yesterday, and he commented how much better built and the quality of the interior was in the Lexus, compared to his alfa, where he feels the money has been spend under the bonnet, rather that the quality of the build! so I guess horses for courses.

Anyway stop talking prices down.......

Ironically it's those that own one !!!

Well to be fair, are we giving opinions to help fellow members or to look after our own interests by trying to promote high prices as good value?

Anyone paying £50k for that GSF is going to get burnt (unless dealer gives an equally inflated amount for their part ex). Crazy prices are not unique to GSF...its more or less across the board in the used car market. 2 years ago when I part exd my 25k miles late 2016 RX450 luxury, they were selling for way less than now (2 years older and 2-3× miles) and used prices look to have risen by at least as much as GSF in the same time (discounting that £50k one which I can't take seriously!). Once the semi conductor situation has sorted itself out (which it will) and new cars become readily available there will inevitably be a crash in the prices we are seeing for used cars now. GSF prices will fall commensurately along with other makes that are also attractive to would be buyers (there is a limit to the premium that most devotees will pay extra).

If we let our heads rule our hearts, we'd sell our GSFs and buy bangers until the price crash occurs,  then buy more up market again more cheaply. Unfortunately my heart wouldn't let sell my GSF! 🙄

What we can't influence is the prices, no matter how we talk them up on here, so I personally prefer to give my honest opinion (and I stress it is only an opinion) with the intention of making someone on here think twice before parting with that kind of money only to experience very heavy depreciation as things return to normal.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with that Pielight; I believe our posts do have an indirect effect.. Before I bought my ISF, I spent a year lurking on this forum and discovered the outstanding build quality and bulletproof reliability of the car. That gave me confidence to spend 60% more on the Lexus than I'd ever spent on a car before. It seemed like a whole lot of money at the time, but nearly 5 years of ownership made it feel like a bargain.

When pondering a switch to a Giulia QF, I lurked on an Alfa forum too. I concluded the cars were not worth to me what dealers were asking

I agree that the forums have a big influence on people’s decision to buy a particular brand or model, but I don’t believe it would be in sufficient numbers to significantly push up the prices at which they go up for sale.

I like you have paid far more for my current GSF and my previous RX which I bought 5 months ago as a 3 month old ex demo, than I’d previously spent on any other car. I have always owned Japanese motorbikes and am very confident in their engineering and via research of the net, etc, quickly established that Lexus was at the top of the tree. However I also researched prices as most do and would/did not pay over the odds.

So where Im coming is that I don’t think that our post would influence people in sufficient numbers to go and pay more than the current market value which in turn would push prices up by a significant degree. I do think that people are influenced to buy cars discussed on this forum as you were though.

Giulia QF

I have a good family friend who specialises in Alfa's (prefers the old stuff and races them) but his business is booming on the QF's problems so early into ownership. Scuttle problems allowing water to come into contact with the ECU, failing fuel pumps, wheels welding themselves to the hubs... 😕

Me too...although I don't think they do mobility scooters so I will have to have a rethink for my next purchase when I need to change the GSF!

I see another 2 GSFs have appeared on AT in addition to the 50k one which unsurprisingly is still on there. Both are private sale 2016 models a 60k miler at circa 33k and a 30k miles circa 42k...both are in blue. Quite a price variation which I'm not sure is fully justified by the considerably lower miles?

Don't think I'd spotted that...although I may have and forgotten which is not beyond the realms of possibility these days!

Hehe, just teasing. Been a slow day, car is gucci. Good photos too, decently photographer known in my local area amongst car enthusiasts. Stark contrasting between the photos used for each of the blue ones!
