Cannot find Vin for 2008 LS460 Japanese Import

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just imported a 2008 LS460 from Japan (arrived a month ago, shipping being completely disrupted nowadays), and trying to register the car with Lexus.uk website. But cannot find the 15 digit VIN, starting with JTH, required for registering the car on the site, anywhere in the car.

The chrome plate on the side of the front passenger door only has the UF40- code. And cannot find anything else on the dash or the engine bay. Anyone knows of other places to check, or whether one can look up the JTH number from the UF40- code?

Many thanks

Michael

Hi Michael and welcome to the LOC.

I already own 2 JDM imports both Toyota Celsiors a 1994 and 2004 model year (LS400/430) the Lexus brand name was not used in Japan until 2006.

I don’t think they have the conventional VIN we have here in the UK, I have 2 JDM imports and the DVLA use the format as shown below.

You may also find that Lexus UK will have no information on the car, I even wrote a letter to the previous Japanese owner on one but never got a response.

On my 1994 their is an ID plate attached to the driver’s side inner wing have you looked under the covers?

If you want to know what the tax disc looking sticker is on the top corner of the passenger side windscreen check one of my other posts, also have a look under the passenger side footwell for a black plastic tube, the red flare is generally missing due to fire risk.

Many thanks Steve, that really helps! I'll check under the places you mentioned tomorrow.

Indeed DVLA does use the UF40- format which I do have, but unfortunately lexus.uk only wants the JTH vin number. But given that the only reason I need it is to register with Lexus UK, and if as you say they wont know anything about the car, then not sure if that's still useful.

Thanks again Steve.
