Tried to read the RX450h user manual, so much information but not what I would like to know. Can you run the heater without it being in Air Con.

If the IS250 is anything to go by yes you can👍

Every car I've had allows one to run the heater without a/c but i'd have to ask why would you?

Running the a/c keeps the seals lubricated helping to prevent refrigerant loss.

The system operates so much better when set to auto and a/c on all year round.

Yes you can, select climate from on screen menu. ac is bottom left on my 2010 Rx450 green is on. Don’t press auto on dash or it turns it back on.

Yes, but I really don't understand why anyone would want to.

Again, I have to agree with Peter on this.

These cars are fitted with Climate Control, which is so much better than just standard A/C

I always leave the aircon on - I find it keeps the cabin fresh and dry and no sweaty hands on long journeys

OK, I understand leaving it on is best but it drain fuel when I might just need a short burst of warm air. I will however accept the advice to leave it on. It was straight forward on my 2004 Lexus RX300, just press a button.

Thanks guys for knowledge.
