When I collected my car it had all the footage of the Lexus Dealer preparing my car for collection.

Hi all:driving:

Alas i would advise against the 380 Nextbase camera as we had one fitted by the Toyota dealer to the car when it was brand new and it fell of the screen after a few months then the fun begins trying to get my iphone using latest software to connect to the dash cam.

See the reviews for the app mostly saying the app is c**p useless i agree completely.:wallbash:

Tried to format it today and failed after god knows how many attempts even tried resetting but no go.:taz:

I have sent a special e-mail to nextbase telling them what i think off there app. ( my special e-mails are no holds barred no swearing or abuse just to the point):twisted1:

Be warned if the nextbase gods are against you you might as well give up.

Best off luck to you who have purchased one you will need it believe me.🙄

I have brought a nextbase 300w but that will never go in my is250 after the trouble with this one never again.

Hi All

I have Thinkware dash cams installed in my NX and CT F Sports.

I bought both of mine from the RAC shop and they were professionally installed

They are quite expensive and work well but did have some teething problems that were sorted.

What I do like about them is the speed camera alert (main reason for purchase) as a lady announces there is a speed / red light/ average speed camera and also tells you what the speed limit is. Yes another nagging voice but its worth it(?) and you can turn her off - unlike you know who.............🤐

Agree the the app is rubbish but after nearly a year I’ve never had either camera falling off and never had trouble formatting…

I have found that all devices stuck to glass have a tendency to fall off usually when it gets very hot from the sun, just stick it back on again.

YouTube videos would suggest cars fitted with dash cams are involved in a disproportionate number of incidents. I'll not be fitting one to my car!

As a BlackVue dashcam user myself over many years, it’s a make I can recommend.

To which end I thought it might be of interest that there’s currently a Sale of what are described as ‘Certified Refurbished’ products heavily discounted.

Just saying…..

How many videos are there from cars without dash cams? I couldn't find any so evidence suggests they are involved in a disproportionate number of incidents... 😉

Can’t argue with facts like that….   😊

I must be missing something Len do you support the use of Dashcams or not.😉

You may be missing that I am being ironic - in the same vein that Caspa was in an earlier post!

As I have noted elsewhere, and many times, I am a firm advocate of dashcams.  In fact I believe they should be standard equipment on all new cars.

Interestingly, our personal experience is that we have been involved in very few recorded incidents - but have recorded a far greater number involving other vehicles or examples of bad and dangerous driving.  My impression of dashcam videos is that there seems to be a preponderance in which the camera is acting as an independent witness of someone else’s crash.

I can only speak for myself, but from the first time I fitted a camera, I was well aware that it was recording my driving as well as everyone else’s.  As I have noted elsewhere, not only does that improve my driving but also my tolerance of other road users.  There’s a certain satisfaction in knowing that however badly another road user is behaving, it’s being recorded - as the offender may discover at a later date!

What type of incidents are on Ytube

There’s another site devoted to bikers that’s equally instructive.

But as has been noted in another post, it’s sometimes the driver submitting the video who seems more at fault.  There are clearly occasions when another driver has made a mistake, or pulled out of a junction rather slowly, say, and the camera owner has not anticipated the situation or exercised any tolerance.

As a dashcam owner, it should be sufficient to know that you’ve captured the evidence to convict the transgressor and there’s no need to try and exact instant retribution.

The very best dashcam out there now is the Thinkware T700. I have the Q800 Pro installed on my car from 2020. Did it myself.

However, I recently installed the T700 on my friends car.

T700 costs around £349 but do your research and get best prices.

The features of the camera makes it more than just a camera.

In the UK it warns you of:-

Red light cameras;

Speed cameras;

Average speed cameras;

Likelihood of mobile Speed cameras;

It has lane departure warning (but volume is a bit low);

It has forward collision warning at urban and high speed (but volume is a bit low);

It notifies you when the vehicle in front has moved if you are not paying attention (but volume is a bit low);

It records motion and impact when the vehicles is parked;

It has built in car Battery protection where if the volts are dropping the camera will switch off;

Where you return to your car and switch it on it can tell you if it detected an impact;

With the T700 you get a sim card to be connected to Vodaphone for £3 pm giving you 300 minutes of data that allows you to find your car and also to view the front and rear camera from anywhere in the world;

The above is handy when returning to your car you can check the surroundings beforehand;

If the T700 senses and impact whilst parked it will send a notification to your phone;

It also has an SOS button and feature to send notifications to someone you choose;

When I use mine in Europe (with the Q800 Pro I have to download the European Programme to the memory card at Calais) I get similar notifications of cameras in Spain. In France it cannot tell you where a camera is (as that is against the law). But it can tell you if you are entering an area with a camera.

Thinkware is cheaper than Black view and does not require an expensive Battery pack.

I have used the accessories and stuck it to my front and rear glass and experienced UK winter and Spain summer and it has not fallen off.

There's no denying that it has an impressive list of features* but at that price I'd be apprehensive about some scrote breaking in and nicking it - I'd want a camera to protect the camera :laughing:

*Impressive though they undoubtedly are, a lot of them would be redundant and will already be present in whatever navigation and mapping app is used (unless one is relying on the awful Lexus offering).

The amount of speeding fines and points I have saved to date has made the camera paid for itself.

On returning from Portugal a few years ago, several months later I received about 3 speeding fines from France averaging about €60 each. None since I bought the camera.

I had the Nextbase camera fitted when I purchased my UX. Basically the experience I had with the camera at time of purchase and afterwards make Lexus look like a bunch of idiots. As an example rear carera fell off while I was in the showroom collecting the car, fell off again on way home. Lexus sent out their top bod to fix it only for it to fall off again. Finally fixed the rear camera to the glass my self using new 3M pads and thoroughly cleaning the glass with white spirit etc. Had been ok for 11 months but sadly rear camera failed within the guarantee period which was replaced by Lexus. My advise- go to a reputable independent specialist who knows what they are doing.

Yes, but my point is that Waze, Sygic, Google Maps and more all have that facility within their navigation/mapping software, which is where that sort of information would normally be found, making it superfluous to include it in a camera. Being able to give you speed camera/speed limit warnings is not the primary reason for people to buy a dashcam.

That is true. The primary reason I bought the camera was to record accidents and any incidents whilst I am driving or parked and it has served that purpose too. The other things are just extras.

I find my Lexus Navigation system excellent for warnings regarding Speed Cameras. Not that I wish to intentionally speed.

You concur with which bit Terry; he's made a few posts above 🙂

George is saying that the Thinkware T700 is the best camera out there and went on to list a whole host of things that it does, but at a high price.

My point is that although the camera is undoubtedly great, it could be at least a hundred quid cheaper if it didn't have a lot of facilities that are basically redundant because they're already provided by other things. Speed warnings/limits/cameras are already in nav and mapping etc., and so on. He said it even warns you if the car in front drives off and you haven't noticed. Who needs that?? Three seconds later and the blaring horns behind you will soon let you know :thumbup:

As I said above, no doubt a great camera but at £350 I'd be too frightened of some scrote breaking in to nick it and I'd need a camera to protect the camera :laughing:
