I have been into Halfords in Huddersfield today and presented my Gold Card so he could attribute the discount but the lad said they don't do that, he had never seen one before and he thought I probably needed to download a voucher.

I persued my stance and eventually after he made a phone call and got help from a colleague, he applied the discount and on the receipt it says, Price Overide. Reason: Store manager authorised.

So, get ready to explain and demand the discount if shops are unaware!

Yes Anthony, my experience is some employees haven't a clue and you have to insist

isn't this really down to poor in-store training

Nature or Nurture Malc? Don't know about you but when in gainful employment I strove to deliver the best and self-improvement was fundamental to that aim. But today we are inexorably sliding into a socialist centric society where the state/employer is expected to be responsible for all your every-day life expectations and if you fail to realise those expectations it is entirely someone else's fault and nothing to do with you guv.

Philip, wot a loada tosh ............ the poor guy probably hasn't ever been told about the nuances of Lexus Gold Cards ......  nor even knows wot a Lexus is ...... age 17 and straight out of school with an amazing state education:yahoo:

Just chill with some of these downtrodden employees, working for a pittance when they could be retrained as HGV drivers on a £ grand a week and full board too ( in their cabs )

Halfords did me proud with 2 x new Falken tyres the other month for the Honda Legend ........  charged me the lowest competitive price match in the local area ......... and I never asked, they just did it ....  for the first and only time in memory Halfords came up trumps :wink3:

A delightful compendium of 3 non-sequitors Malc and your use of "wot a load tosh" can only be testimony to the success of your "amazing state education ". 🤣. Firstly, your first para is so full of assumptions it's hardly worth commenting on so I won't. But I am sure parents of young people of a similar age may well do. Your second para makes my initial point entirely, be responsible for your own life don't let someone else live it for you. Thirdly, some months ago I wrote how Halfords had fitted 4 Goodyear Asymmetric's WITH my gold card and a running promotion which meant I paid way below any other supplier including Openeo. And it wasn't a 17 year old who did the job but there was one watching, I guess Malc we all had to start somewhere and couldn't get it all by some form of osmosis as we slept. 😎

Evening Chris, just because something has a label on it doesn't make it so 🙄 As from today's announcement if you are of working age you will be subject to greater levels of government extraction of your money to give to someone./something else since WWll. In principle this means you work and I eat because I can spend your money better than you can but lets call it fairness and equality. 🤔

and there's me thinking that all sane people in this Kingdom want to avail themselves of the NHS free at the point of need ..... it's just the age old Q of when do you stop treating people with new wonder drugs etc .......  who's gonna be the first to pop their hands up to say " not me guv " I don't want this or that drug that's gonna cost £300 a pop even tho it will keep me alive a while longer  .........  so's I can reside in that care home across the way there whilst my house I own, worth £50k /£500k / £5mn sits empty so's my kids, or even your kids can inherit it all when I finally pop off .....  provided the NHS doesn't keep me going for ever ....  and ever AAAAAAmen

Bless you and us all eh !

When I presented my Gold card when purchasing a Halfords recently, there was a similar situation in that the initial counter person was unaware of the discount scheme.  He then referred it to an older person who said in my hearing  that it was in order in the same way they have an arrangement with Mazda.

As regards politics, any views expressed are likely to be contentious, so perhaps generally best avoided on a car forum.  I am biting my tongue as I am a member of a discussion group and the ramifications of political decisions figure quite often!

Once again I have visited Halfords in Huddersfield where they kept me waiting for ages before begrudgingly giving me the discount.

Halfords staff state that we should be given a discount code by LOC when we pay our membership and staff could just put this into their till and it would appropriate the correct discount.

She went on to say this is what other owners clubs like Ford do.

It feels so much hassle that I think I will use somewhere else or just not ask in future.

Halfords prices are so high that our discount only brings it down to the same price as elsewhere. The only time I use Halfords is when better places are closed.

Sorry Anthony but I haven't the faintest idea of what you are trying to say?

I think that as soon as they realise the amount of work required they will be asking for more money.

I replaced upgraded my main beam, sidelights and fog light bulbs and although time consuming it was withing the capabilities of most diyers but have 2nd person to help support its removal and refitting.

nope, in my limited experience a few years ago with the simple to my mind, but clearly complex to them, changing a headlight bulb on my then Mazda 323f💖 with poppy-up headlights, they simply refused to carry on ............  and not charge

Leaving me headlight-less and winking :whistling:

Halfords offer to fit headlight bulbs for £8 do you think this includes  removing and refitting the bumper on my sc 🤔

Give it a go, you would get discount and the result would be interesting to many SC owners!

It is 'possible' to replace the Xenon headlamp bulbs without removing the bumper but it is a bit tricky. If the bumper is coming off then it's worth considering renewing the ballast units at the same time.
