Cleaning tips?

We have a silver birch where I park my 450h on the drive. It drops millions of tiny seeds which seem to find their way into anything.

The worst accumulation seems to be down the side channels of the rear hatch where they get under the black plastic thingies (technical term!) on either side.

Is there an easy way to remove these thingies (technical term again!) to have a good clean up as a hoover only gets rid of some of the seeds and then only if they are really dry?

Likely you will find one in local Halfords - it should get rid of the dirt nicely. It will require some work there and exercise especially on the areas where is tough to move clay around - but once you get rid of big pieces, small ones should go away with the detailer and clay 🙂

It did wonders on the years of stain around plastics and rubber in my GS, so it should easily take off that stuff there 🙂

But, again - more effort you put into proper clean, more of the excellent looks you will get out of it 🙂

You'll know/ascertain when the seeds start to fall (in quantity) - so at about the beginning of that period, give the rear side channels a good clean, and then line with a snug fit of cling film.

When all seeds/leaves have fallen - - then carefully remove the cling film!

My suggestion is most definitely a simple man's approach - but should work!     🙂

Certainly worth trying.  I live near the coast and there are a lot of seagulls and to a lesser extent other birds who leave their mark on my car.  My garage is too small to accommodate an RX and my work bench.  In the circumstances I am investigating the possibility of erecting a 'lean to'  to alleviate this problem.  In some situations this might also help with falling leaves, seeds and sap.

The question really was is there an easy way to remove these black plastic things? Presumably any water that runs down the channels at the sides runs down behind these plastic bits and drains away.

I tried once - didn't manage it.

I'm sure it can be done, but as to how...
