Hi everyone,long time no post!

Has anyone got this book for sale, I'm trying to fix a 1993/4 series two for a friend.

This was a crank no start and replacing the caps. in the ECU fixed it but there is no speedo.

I have the series one wiring book but all the ECU plugs are different.

Trying to confirm speed sensor fault [trying to avoid crawling under the car, getting too old!], instrument panel fault

or further ECU problems.

I may still have a copy on disc, will check later today for you.

These needles have a tendency to stick at the stop rest have you tried the usual thump the top of the dash whilst driving to see if it frees off?

Hi Steve

Thanks, will try that little persuader, owner is away , so can't check

if the speedo was working before.

This ECU fault was an instant no spark failure, lucky the owner not doing

70mph on the motorway, with no hard shoulder.

Leaking cap. corroded away one leg and part of the circuit track.

now on this sticky point ....  I too am again suffering from this dreadful failing in my car ..  from time to time .  it's got past the often, in the past usual " gentle thump " to remedy and it's learnt to only come back to life when it's in the mood ........... these old lady's eh !

What I have noticed is that it now sometimes, when it does burst back into life, mis-measures the speed by about 10mph too ......  maybe for about 20 mins before it seems to get it's actual speed measuring about right .........  I can't imagine there's a fix for this ............  is there do you think ? , well, besides chucking it all away and buying a replacement speedo that when I enquired from Lexus some years ago was .. wait for it ..  some £3500 :unsure:

As part of the ongoing saga to get all four gauges working, preferably at the same time, I carried out a small modification I found on the website of a US cluster specialist. It involves removing the front of the cluster to expose the cluster needles and carefully drilling small holes at the usual resting point of the speedometer and tachometer needles and inserting a short piece of stiff wire. I used 1.5mm wire and painted it black. So far it works perfectly, although it possibly affects the accuracy slightly, but not enough to be noticeable.

Steve's magic formula worked, I've not had this problem on mine.

If it did get a problem I would try HOWPLUM's suggestion.

LOC wins again.

Still want that wiring book ,anybody, any luck Steve

But check all components of the part number carefully, which can really only be confirmed by removing the cluster. There seems to be quite a variety of different versions fitted by Lexus. I have been looking for several months for one to fit my 1995/6 LS400, so far without success, which is why I am persevering with the repair option, albeit with limited success so far.

Hopefully later today Roy, the data is on disc ( CD-ROM ?) but the only device I have with a DVD drive is an old windows 10 laptop which I have now fully charged.

If the diagrams are on I may just send you the disc to copy then return it to me.

yes it might but tbh I really can't be too bothered right now ....  I just KNOW it will self-heal one day soon :yes:
