Hi guys,

New problem with the car, since yesterday my car is setting off REALLY slowly. The first 0-10 ish mph is very slow and when stopping and then setting off again on a hill it's like the car is crawling it takes a solid 5-6 seconds to get up to 10mph.

Everything else seems fine it kicks down gears fine and once out of that 0-10mph range it accelerates fine.

The car will be going to Lexus on Tuesday (only time they have free) but the problem is I'm working every day till then and my daily commute to work is 75 miles round trip. Anyone know what the issue could be and if its okay to drive like this?

Thank you in advance.

Have you knocked the mode button , you could be in snow mode or normal mode.

Also tried in sport mode still slow but as soon as car is over the 10mph mark its accelerating as should 😓

So the engine is revving up OK but the transmission is sluggish?

Didn't notice anything different with engine revs so yeah seems to be revving like normal. It's like the car stays in that little auto crawl when you come off the brake and only accelerates slightly then back to normal.

Just check the wheels for excess heat, if one is a lot hotter it could be the proverbial seized calliper problem, the effect would be more pronounced from a standing start but overcome once the wheels get rolling faster.

Was my first thought, unfortunately not the issue.

Time for a transmission fluid change, and checking the transmission filter?

Been done 2 months ago by lexus, although it was the first one of its life so maybe another one wouldn't do any harm? Car is at 111k miles.

Well might aswell throw it in here gearbox won't go into 5th or 6th anymore, diagnostics have come up with a P0894 - Transmission Component Slipping code. Gearbox specialist told me it'll be 4k plus vat to recon the box and put a new clutch in (as he thinks it's the clutch that's the issue), and lexus just basically told me box is dead would you like a new one for 6K.

Thanks for your help guys my Lexus ownership has been short but sweet.

did you ever do a 'transmission flush...'??

these  units should last the life of the car, assuming regular gear oil is used - if they break there is usually a reason

Lexus did change the ATF oil and filter not too long ago.

its unusual for these to fail, if you are absolutely sure no flush was carried out and ATF has been on the point I would push for lexus to look into it

methinks if Lexus are telling you to throw possibly £6k at a replacement gearbox etc then one should analyse when the flush / oil and ATF filter change was done and at what miles and why on earth nobody at Lexus advised you there was a problem !

Seems somewhat strange  .......  have you got more to this tale to impart ?

Unfortunately not, bought the car broken (solenoid faults) developed slight judder at low RPM, took it to Lexus for full diagnostics which amounted up to £750 to be told oil is dirty, had oil and filter changed in box and box calibrated, 1 month later box dead. 😂

The eBay transmission has sold did you buy it Daniel?

So did you pay Lexus £750.00 to sort the gearbox a month ago and it has now failed completely?

What mileage has it done, sounds like an ex Birmingham taxi.

That was the original plan as current symptoms are slow first gear acceleration and no gear 5 and 6. But when I told Lexus these symptoms they estimated it'll be over a thousand pounds in diagnostics if not closer to two thousand.

Car is currently at 111k, I managed to squeeze 2k miles out of it after lexus had it of pretty stress free driving (my daily commute is 2 miles on a 40 road and 35 miles on the motorway then repeat back)

Lexus make me smile with a £2K quote for diagnostics, there is no way they would strip a transmission down to component level to diagnose to individual component level like shift solenoids or brake bands. Plug the code reader in and then as they have done quote for a complete transmission.

I would keep looking for a good used transmission and get a decent local garage to fit it.
