I've not been keeping up with current stuff but the E10 "petrol checker" caught my eye by chance.

https://check-vehicle-compatibility-e10-petrol.service.gov.uk/manufacturer/Lexus

So most are ok but what does this mean for those vehicles that can't use it? 😕

In this case namely the following

  • IS250 2.5 litre V6 with engine 4GR-FSE made between August 2005 and September 2007.
  • GS300 3.0 litre V6 with engine 3GR-FSE made between January 2005 and September 2007.
  • LS460 4.6 litre V8 with engine 1UR-FSE made between August 2006 and September 2007.

They have to use super unleaded.

Or pre 1998 LS 400?

Probably ok but no official data to confirm 😞

The required E5 petrol will still be available for a few years - at premium price. On the IS250, I wonder which parts of the fuel system (seals?) were changed after September 2007 to allow running on E10 fuel - and if it might be an easy / cheap job to upgrade these to later spec?

Also as an aside, on the page up until yesterday they had this: (highlighted text) It seems to have been removed now but not before somebody got a screenshot 🤣

EDIT: Nope its still there - must be a "cookie" related thing. 😳

So basically you can continue to use older non compatible vehicles but you’ll pay more duty/tax for the privilege over the next 5 years.

Such determination to remove these vehicles from the road, What’s next an E10 scrappage scheme.....here’s £2K off a Nissan Leaf!

I wasn’t wrong either

”While current estimates suggest that there are 700,000 vehicles that are incompatible with E10 fuel in regular use on the UK’s roads, the government estimates that scrappage schemes will remove the majority of these, leaving only a few of what they term “cherished and classic” vehicles.”

@Brian, well it is a Government website so they have a duty to make it Moron proof. 🤣

My older motorcycle will run on E10 as it has plastic floats in the carbs and the O-rings are Ethanol tolerant, but it needs a stabiliser adding to the fuel if it is left standing for more than a few days as it has a steel petrol tank and E10 absorbs so much water that just one winter of 3-4 months will destroy the tank. I am considering getting the tank lined with a polymer lining specifically because of this.
We will have to start carrying additives like this https://www.carservicepacks.co.uk/product/liqui-moly-e10-21421/ once the SuperE5 goes to SuperE10 in a few years time. Oh the joys of running older vehicles. 🙄
