Our 2017 Gen4 F Sport has recently developed an annoying little noise when driving. It is a sort of quiet creaky sound coming from the cup holder in the centre console which stops if you press your fingers on it.

Has anyone else "suffered" from this? Any ideas on how to silence it or how to remove the cup holder to investigate why it is making this noise would be appreciated.

Are you sure is it coming from cup holder? I seldom notice a creaking noise but it comes from the elbow support little drawer. Ho to eliminate it? I don't know 😄

Mine is a similar sounding annoying little creak that came on with the hot weather. I found that mine comes from the black cover above the RHS air vent on the drivers side. Pressing fingers into it stops it so I've used credit cards which work but don't look very pretty. When I can be bothered I'll get a thick black shoe lace and push that in starting nearest the windscreen pillar and then working all the way round.

Had the same thing with my 09 rx350 rear seat cup holder it was the lid making the noise closed or open put a few drops of oil on the lid hinges stopped the noise

Alan   I did have this noise last summer but doesn't seem to have come back this year. Different sort of hot weather this year?

Glenn   The 450h doesn't have a lid on the cup holder. Obviously a design improvement!!!

We had a squeak coming from the armrest on drivers door and worked in some talcum powder. That cleared the squeak. Worth a try!

Had something similar years ago and a squirt of WD40 did the trick! Worth trying.

A few years ago (well - probably 20), I bought a small puffer bottle of powdered PTFE.

It's finer than talcum powder, and a brilliant lubricant. (use on zips, plastic joints, and anywhere where an oily residue would be unsightly, or catch muck and dust).

Would most likely be very effective on creaky joints (shame I cannot inject it into my knees!)

Can anyone explain the purpose of the "Push" button in the side of the cup holders?

You should be able to press down on the bottom of the cup holder nearest the dashboard to push the base down. The button is used to return the height of the cup holder to normal.

Yes Silicone spray is great at lubricating door seals and hard plastics to stop creaking noises. The WD40 branded spray isn't expensive but you can also find cheaper alternatives at Screwfix or plumbers merchants as it is used for fitting push-fit waste/soil pipes.

I used PTFE dry lube. The cup holder creak was driving me insane. It is completely silent now.
