Transmission Oil Changed

I posted asking people about the very common transmission oil change months ago.

I've done around 3500 miles since I got it from 83k in January.

Ive been happy with the car. But recently on a long drive especially when re routed through towns the car was sluggish in lower gears. Something didn't feel right. Pulling power was always on and off recently. Checked the oil levels and all else and everything was fine.

I could tell the gears were the only thing really left to work on. 

Long story short. £287 for a full 5l of oil change OEM Aisin. Gasket seal and filter. Labour included. 

Went to a transmission specialist that only work on these things.

The old oil came out black and you could tell it was very dirty.

Guys done a very good job with me watching the whole time since it was far away from me.

Driving it now I could say there is a massive difference in shifting. It's smooth, fast and most of the time not really noticeable. The power now feels much better. I think the car holds gears better at lower speeds now.

For anyone wondering should you or shouldn't you. Just get it done it it's not in good colour.

I got mine done too. No oil is lifetime.

Found them selling parts on eBay then checked and they have a garage and also carry out the work on transmission stuff. They seem to have the right type of equipment. There was no flush on mine though which is it what everyone said avoid.

One local guy was saying something like £250 for labour but I have to get the oil and parts. Looks like he was trying to con me. He was also mainly just specialising in transmissions. Lexus Dealers were not being clear a few months ago over the phone as the sales agent didn't know anything technically and was just being passed messaged. Think they only do drain and refill for £150. A few others around London were also only offering drain and refill for around £120-£150. I did verify with the guy if that is enough oil 5l. He said he was doing it based on what he could see, started the car during the process and said its perfect.

It has been running since Friday and I have had some long drives already and it does feel like a new car now so far so good 🙂

Just came here to give back to the community as we need to make sure the Lexus's stay on the road forever.

Not sure what the IS250 uses but Toyota Type IV is on special offer at LPD at the moment.

Ah I see it says Manchester now before it was London. Pretty sure Manc have specialists as well for this.

Hov did you manage to change 5 litre vithout Flushing ?

Transmission Fluid Change - Replaces 50%-60% of your transmission fluid. Your transmission pan is drained without special equipment, inspected, and cleaned. The transmission filter is replaced and new fluid is added, leaving a mixture of old and new fluid.

Transmission Flush - Replaces 100% of your transmission fluid and purges accumulated particles and deposits from the entire transmission. Fluid is expelled from your transmission using a cooler line flushing machine or a pump inlet. The transmission pan is inspected and cleaned, the filter replaced. A complete batch of new, pure ATF is added.

Definately did the first option as there was no fluid/cleaner being pumped in to is using the machine. And this is the reason why only 5l was put in cos I am sure a flush would pull out 1 litre or 2 more at least.

The pan removal only take out 1.5 liters, so how did you get out 50-60% oil? I flushed my Lexus Is250 9 month ago,but i did ‘nt  use the detergent fluid, only flushed with the oil that the car use. The reason for not using the detergent fluid was the risk of small  dirt parts to end up  in the wrong places. So far the gearbox works fine, most noticeable that it gear down on lower rpm, before i could force the car upphill on a lower rpm than today because its just gear down.

I am not exactly sure then. I thought 1.5l was just what would come out the drain plug without taking the pan off.

Not sure if anything like the Torque converter was taken off. That might have slipped me if it did. I am definately sure I saw bucket load of oil come out which was black and 5L being pumped in.

But definately that machine was not used.
