With regard to the roof ,I think you are right with the bird poo ,we have a problem here with gulls which can really make a mess of paint

I’m not clear if you’ve already covered this point, but as you’re obviously getting tooled up to do your own ‘detailing’, I wonder if you’d considered applying a ceramic coating?  It would certainly provide better bird poo protection than you’re possibly getting right now.

@true blue I contacted my local Lexus approved dealer to do that one panel would be £500 but they would like to do the whole roof and charge over £1000 then said if deals and rubbers need changing that would be extra. But they would just do the centre panel for £500. Waiting for 2 more estimates

They do look pretty grubby, rather than go universal(they never really tend to fit properly)why not try lexus parts direct and see what new ones cost

LPD charge about £65 each!! looks like its AUTOSOL etc for me

Hi Len I have considered using a coating of some sort to combat the Gulls here in Morecambe ,but I am concerned about the preparation work becoming contaminated in the time before I could seal the coat as my garage is not big enough to work inside .I presently use Farcla wax and carry a detailer round with me for instant removal

Thanks   Dave

Sounds like a worryingly high level of avian incontinence you have there, Dave.  What are you feeding them? 🙂

Clearly you’re already investing a substantial amount of time, effort and cash on your Lexus, so if the initial application of a ceramic coating is the problem, have you considered using a local detailer?  I note that there are a few operating in Morecambe.

I suppose it very much depends on the overall condition of the car, how long you plan to keep it and initial cost as opposed to what is currently involved in your ongoing battle of the Birds.

Here in the Midlands our local birds can be similarly inconsiderate regarding their toilet activities.  I keep my Lexus out of the garage for my convenience, not as theirs.  So one reason for having it professionally detailed was to remove ‘poo panic’ - the fear of missing the latest deposit.

No need for a ceramic coating on a car. Just a normal wash and polish or a waterless wash/polish which is what I do 80% of the time. If I see bird pooh then a simple wipe away with a damp paper towel. It's the carnauba wax in the waterless stuff that works wonders.

Hi Len thanks for the advice I will look into the coatings ;feeding gulls ? this is a sea side resort and they thrive on a diet of fish and chips and other holiday take away food that this generation discard all over the place .What they can't scavenge they steal even when your eating it .To add to my polishing duties I also run a Mazda MX5 and needless to say I don't leave this outside with the hood down   either !!! .The Mazda paint is a very soft paint and you have to be careful when removing deposits

Cheers.   Dave

The trick to safely remove bird poo is to get a soft cloth, soak it in water, apply wet cloth onto the poo. Leave it 10 mins. What thecwet cloth does is softens it so it makes it easily removable. There is a product out there made just for that job. I bought some and yes it works really well but I thought why spend a few quid when I can do it for free.
