I have 3rd party rubber floor mats in the car that are great, was vaguely considering buying a new set of the official Lexus carpets to put in it for the summer but now I'm thinking, why bother? They're harder to clean and I can't see any real benefit other than it looking slightly nicer.

If your interior is grey or black then they are easy to clean - even with just a hoover and wipe down with a damp cloth they come up great.

Cream on the other hand is harder to keep clean and (to clean)

When I had my IS200 sport with cream/beige interior and mats I bought a second set of mats in black to use over the winter. I currently have two sets in black for my IS250 f sport and tend to alternate usage, you could call it a waste of money but my choice 😄

I habitually change from carpet to rubber floor mats at the same time as I change from summer to winter tyres, and vice-versa.  This change

is also a good opportunity for giving the mats a thorough clean before storage in readiness for their next use, the rubber with applications of

dressing, generously on any discoloured or spotty areas, and the carpet with shampoo if necessary.   The greater likelihood of bringing in

mud and wet dirt makes rubber mats a more practical winter choice and, obviously, the life of the carpet ones is lengthened correspondingly.

Not that I have any complaints about the durability of the latter.   The only problem regards the inevitable tendency of the driver's mat to

develop a concavity where the heel rests and swivels, but this can to some degree be remedied by placing a loose piece of under-carpet

netting or webbing underneath.

When I got my 450h it came with both sets of mats, the rubber were over the top of the carpet ones. I've never bothered taking the rubber ones out except to clean them.
