Hi just just had my 2012 rx450h for 2 weeks and have started thr detailing of the car. The dull chrome on the boot and doors looks poor.

Just wondering what you guys use to bring the chrome trim back to new.?

Also is there a guide to remove the trim sonic can clean the paintwork behind them ?

Regards

I am in a similar position, my view is you are unlikely to bring them to an "as new" condition short of re-chroming. Unless I am mistaken the depth of original chrome layers was reduced at some point. My 20 year old Jag chrome parts are still as new. Autosol as a cleaner is as good as anything I know

autosol is for metal chrome ?

I don't want to scratch the plastic chrome trim.

It let's the car down if I don't get it sorted

Are you sure it's plastic? Be amazed if it were.

You should be able to remove all doubt - if indeed you have any - by checking with a magnet.

I have in the past used a Gtechniq G4 Glass Polish and a soft foam pad. If that's not within reach any reputable detailer will have an old open bottle of Autoglym Super Resin Polish - hand application with a pad should bring decent results as it also has fillers. I would steer away from any stainless metal polishes such as the Meguiars Nxt or, it's great for exhausts but a little harsh on the plastics.

Another great product is Great Lion applied by hand with a microfibre pad. It's very harsh but hand application shouldn't be too abrasive.
