My rhd RX400H developed a cracked windscreen lost week so I booked it into a specialist here in France for replacement. The technician was looking at the car while he was on the phone to his suppliers and after a couple of tries found a screen.

The car went in today and a couple of hours after they started the work I got a call to say there was a"small" problem because they had received a screen for a left hand drive car instead of a right hand drive-so it didn't fit.

It's this likely or an I being fed a line to cover a mistake on their part (did they order the right part in the first place).

Are windscreens handed?

I wouldn`t be surprised to find that they are David.

I'd be very surprised if windscreens came in LHD and RHD versions. The glass shape is the same.

Do you have HUD? I suppose this might make a difference if the film is positioned at manufacture? The same could be said for any camera area or rain sensors but I've never heard of 'handed' screens before.

My guess is they have broken something or ordered the screen for a different model..

You have a very suspicious mind.........and I totally agree with your hypothesis 🙂

They do have 6 different part numbers for RHD and LHD  (there are 3 options for each, standard green tint, luxury and luxury with wiper heater). The frame should be the same for both left and right hand drive but the wipers may be positioned differently.

I have HUD on my car, can't say I've noticed a film where the HUD displays. The wipers will be handed so if they are heated in that area then there will be a different part no.

I would think it's the base screen. Certainly no HUD or heating. I'm just waiting for them to tell me that they've found the right screen and fitted it, but I can't see that happening for a few days, somehow

Interesting. Don't remember seeing these options documented before. Were they available in the uk?

How does the wiper heater work? Are there heating elements buried in the glass?

How did they manage that?

By any chance is the place called   “Kwik de Fit Fenetra” 😀

Actually "Pare brises sont nous". Out with Google translate?

And no, it's not their real name!

I remember my 1988 F reg Vauxhall Carlton had the radio aerial buried in the glass of the windscreen ........  seemed innovative at the time

I remember having to have a windscreen changed on a Triumph TR7 that has shattered when hit by a flying stone kicked up by a lorry.

At the time most windscreens were fitted using the rubber surround and the old "string around the rubber" method.

The TR7 was glued onto the body with a metal wire running around the glue on the edge that they had to connect to a Battery to then heat the glue and stick it onto the body.
