Hi everyone

I have my is250 year 2010 for about a year now and it's been a pleasure to drive and own but recently I've noticed that gearbox sometimes not always is kind of jerky while changing gears. Especially early on a cold morning between 1st and 2nd gear and it seems there's a tiny bump in 4th gear but it doesn't occur always that's what confuses me, so I thought maybe to do the oil change probably never was changed but yet again I'm a bit worried because my previous car-bmw had some issues after the oil change. Here in Spain there are couple of "gearbox specialists" but not a single one of them is using toyota original atf most of them are using Valvoline atf with specification for toyota/lexus type VI at the back. At lexus main dealer they're not very keen on doing it and even if they accept it is just parcial change around 3-4liters and they want to charge me nearly 600euros for that. Does anyone had any experience with this type of oil?

The AFT is fairly generic type of fluid, Valvoline is as well well known brand, but whoever does the change must do it correctly.

Does Lexus dealer change includes filter change? That would make sense considering the cost, but would be best to check with them.

Yes it includes the filter the only thing that is worrying me is that gearbox already has some issue and that just a bit of new oil is not going to fix.

Most issues on the service manual has "checking fluid level" as a step for troubleshooting. Apart of replacing the fluid there is nothing else you can do with the gearbox. If there would be issues with solenoids you would get a fault code, but that as well could be caused simply by fluid again. Generally, if procedure is done correctly and Lexus dealer should know how to do it, then it cannot hurt. 

In short - no matter what issue you have on gearbox the fluid change and level check is always first thing to do.

If there is mechanical damage e.g. broken gear, then this would be very obvious very quickly and certainly when changing fluid - chunks of gears would be all over the place.

Ok thanks I'll take it to a Lexus dealer then better than take the risk with these people
