Clockspring Replacement for RX300 Phase 2 2004

Recommended Posts

Recently purchased an RX300 and noticed the cruise control was not working, also the radio buttons on the steering wheel and then the airbag light came on.  I bought a Techstream and the error code is B1181 - Open in D Squib (2nd Step) Circuit.  As these are all steering wheel related problems I am assuming I need to replace the clockspring.  I have tried looking for the correct part but I seem to be getting conflicting part numbers for this car. Sometimes it is part 48020 and other times 48030.  The Lexus UK website was selling 48030 for £250 but it is for RX300 Phase 2 2005-2006 which does not quite match up with my car.  Does anyone know how to find out which part it is without removing the part from my car? Also does anyone have any suggestions on the best place to buy one?

I assume you mean part 84306-48030. That is correct for all series II RX300s from 2003 onwards. Not sure about 48020 without the full part code, but if you mean 84306-48020, that isn't found on any European Lexus vehicle.

The Lexus website was probably lexuspartsdirect.co.uk? This isn't Lexus GB but is Lexus Swindon. They are probably the cheapest supplier of genuine Lexus parts in the UK. If you supply your vehicle reg or VIN they would be able to confirm it is the correct part.

The part is also used in the series II Prius in the UK, so you could try a Toyota dealer - some people have found parts are cheaper from Toyota compared to Lexus even for the same part.

The part is used across many different vehicles - there are third party parts available from China on eBay for under £15. Certainly cheaper than £250 from a dealer.
