P1120

So VSC and ?TRC OFF and engine light all light up, acceleration has gone, plugged in reader and code P1120 comes up, anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like throttle position sensor, either the sensor itself or a bad connection

Yes it does, is that sensor located at the rear of the throttle body?

it's the acceleration position sensor rather than the TPS - both are on the throttle body. Probably worn out or physically broken where the throttle cable mechanism attaches.

Strange that the accelerater pedal, seems to not work at all untill it hits a harder push, can actually feel the pedal harder to push, revs and gearbox are all over the place

The fly-by-wire throttle is disabled so all you have is the mechanical throttle cable linked to the throttle body - you need to press the accelerator down almost 3/4 before it starts to work, you only get part throttle range and because the electric motor isn't operating the throttle it is stiffer - it is just a limp mode to get you home.

You are definitely correct in you diagnosis

I think it is the one at the back - the one directly connected to the accelerator cable mechanism - not the one on the other side.

Yes, think you're right Colin, if the crap weather gts better tomorrow, I will have a tinkers, this is the first thing that has ever gone wrong with the engine. Couldn't believe it!

Take a look at this video - the sensor get dry solder joints that need to be reworked. You then need to repair the damage you do getting into it - easier just to replace it but may be expensive.

 

 

Given that it may be a dry joint issue you may find the problem is intermittent and will work okay the next day but will come back until you correct the issue.

The biggest hurdle is repairing the damage caused so you make it somewhat dirt and water proof again.

Will endeavor to have a look tomorrow, can't get it in my garage at the moment unfortunately, decided to replace some water hoses on the Esprit, waiting for delivery of parts so can't move it, and other side has the aprilia and lots of Epos stuff that I deal with, got to be done on the driveway, no worries if the weather is good, not big on getting cold and wet🤔😕💦

So weather not to bad this morning, it was exactly as Colin thought, I removed the sensor, desoldered then resoldered the joints, which were all bad and cracking, resealed, put everything back together, reset codes, problem fixed🆒🍺🍺🍺
