Need some assistance with my only key. Won’t open the boot and occasionally won’t open the doors. Been to Lexus, they supplied a new key but couldn’t programme it. Any help appreciated

Hi John and welcome to the LOC.

It sounds like you only have the valet key not the master key hence why it won’t open the boot.

New keys can only be programmed from a master key which is probably why even Lexus could not programme another key.

If the key you have starts the car and it’s only locking/unlocking it doesn’t do I would fit an aftermarket remote locking system or face many thousands for new keys and ECU from Lexus. Of course never lose the only key you have.

Just out of interest was this a recent purchase?

One key is always dangerous. You can obviously open the boot from the inside button, but what if you loose that key or it fails to work? These cars, I think, were once voted as the most difficult car to steal, because of all laminated glass and the double locking system.
