Are there any benefits, or pitfalls to changing the OEM air filter for a K&N?

always had them on previous cars, but when I asked for advice from the dealer about doing it to my NX, I was told it’ll mess up the engine mapping and invalidate the warranty.

personally I think they are talking nonsense.

opinions?

Increased intake noise, which some think a benefit..

Reduced filtering possibly increased engine wear.

It might mess up the mass air sensor through over oiling the filter.

Generally speaking unless one is remapping the engine after other tuning modifications there are no benefits to changing the air intake filter. The OEM filter, properly maintained,  is not a restriction to performance.

Any unauthorised modification may impact the warranty but unlikely to invalidate it.

Was the car bought with finance (PCP)? In which case the finance company would have need to authorise any modifications

Quick update.

Changed filter for K&N.
Feels nippier, although that could be in my head.
Fuel consumption is about the same / slightly better

Now I have the car covered in the super sexy chav K&N POWER etc. etc. stickers
I feel like such a big man on my estate, even though I'm 4'6" and have a....... the size of a peanut
