Mine rusted away on my previous 400h so I cut them off. Still passed the MOT without an advisory, apparently they are not required/structural.

Surely they are required on the rear as they have the parking brake mechanism attached to them?

At £400.00 is that just for the parts or including fitting? Rockauto have them in stock for £85.00 a pair then add in another £15.00 for shipping and 20% pre paid VAT.

The bit that rusts is the outer area which is very thin metal so the bit that houses the handbrake is left intact. And yes the price is just for the back plate pair alone. that's why I cut the rusty bits off.

My RX400 has now passed 3 MOTs with the shields removed(trimmed back)

At the last MOT the garage actually replaced the rear discs/pads and parking brake shoes with no comment about the trimmed back shields. It failed on parking brake below 50% efficiency and decided to  upgrade all at same time.
