Not great! Is it slightly rusty too? Looks like it from the photos. Hope you get a good outcome.

I think it possibly is rusty as its been letting in water. They are sealing it at no cost, but I've had to pay for the investigation..

@Maxz @Markcampbell81 Lexus Cardiff have said this is the first case they have seen about the boot lid splitting along the seems. At the present time, it is not a repair that is covered under warranty as it is not recognised as a part (or section of) that should require a repair at this time. I wonder if you other were to go to Lexus and bring this same concern to them, whether it would become a warranty covered repair in future that could benefit other IS (3rd Gen) owners.

Yes, a £126 diagnostic and sealant repair might be a hard bullett to bite (especially as Maxz has already repaired his) but is something that could help others in the future...

Worth us all having a look when time permits. If 2 people on this forum have the splitting issue it can't be just coincidence

I think Maxz's comment a couple of posts back or maybe on his own thread that the boot is much more lightweight than previous generation IS's could be partly the cause and if we are closing the boot with similar levels of force that we would use to with those older cars.... So yes, an apparent design flaw not picked up in development that Lexus owners would be unwittingly heavy handed. Lol

I have the same steamed rear window issue. Who bets I've got the same split?

It is possible. See if the panel on the boot lid is wet. It will be good if Lexus will recognise this as a possible fault that will be covered by Warranty for others in the future.

If you do take it to Lexus, let them know I had my boot lid sealed along the crack. If they want date and names to verify the work was done and the problem may be similar/same, the my name is correct and it was the Cardiff dealership who undertook the work.

We may not get it added to the warranty list immediately, but the more people who have the same problem, the more likely it may in time.

What a strange issue! At least its just in a secondary body part not actually structural!

When I got my IS, I stripped all the boot seal off and cleaned everything as it was full of crud like yours. Glad my boot is nice and dry, when I start tidying my car up in spring, I'll be checking for this fault though!

Glad you got to the bottom of it.

Do you think your car could have been rear ended and that cause the crack?

Thanks for sharing the details/photos Stuart. This weld line splitting at various locations along it’s length may be the explanation of the various historic posts on rear screen condensation and damp patches in boots. My rear condensation problem went from bad to zero simply by sealing the crack. If anyone else wants to investigate for themselves, diagrams below to assist with the dismantle process. My advice is be gentle on your boot lids IS owners!

Ours hasn't seen a dealer since we got it and never will.

Il have a look when it's getting its spring tidy up.

Hi lads, has anyone had issues with water coming in from the top right hand corner of the rear window and making the parcel tray and boot wet, also visible water droplets on the bottom right hand side of the window.

Hi mate, I had this issue. The bonding had failed in a couple of places on the rear screen. I noticed water droplets forming in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and some dripping into the boot. The puncture repair kit holder on top of the 12v Battery was also full of water. The local Lexus dealer tested the screen with soapy water and an air line. Found 2 gaps in the seal.

I got a local windscreen place to remove and refit the screen. There’s a slight risk of the screen breaking on removal, but the fitter said they did a lot of work like this for the local Merc main dealer and they’ve never had one break yet. Avoid using one of the main windscreen companies if you can, as I found they’ll be 2 or 3 times the price when I was calling round. Find a local fitter with a good reputation if you can.

Thanks. I have full windscreen cover so the window might break some night and save all that hassle. Was going to a sealant people have recommended on here to me 1st.

Yes this is where I first saw the water, the lower LHS from between the boot trim and lid. Worked out it was the weld seam split. I have since removed both light clusters and the central boot trim and siliconed the cracks along the entire length of the boot. Use a decent quality silicone and try to match the body colour (in my case easy - black). External standard like Everbuild 825 or Dowsil probably best.
