The dealer demonstrator I drove yesterday was a Takumi spec car which, now I’ve investigated further, I realise has the adaptive damper system. The ride quality was sublime but I’m looking at a base model with the standard set up. Anyone know whether there’s much difference between the two?

Hi Richard,

I have a 2019 RX + Premium Pack (i.e. no adaptive dampers) and the ride quality is very good indeed in my opinion (better than my adaptive suspension equipped Jaguar XF). The only slight negatives I've found is there is a little 'float' when driving on fast A roads, but then the RX isn't a car I chuck around the bends 🙂 The adaptive suspension may alleviate this somewhat.

Sadly, I've never driven a Premier/Takumi model with the adaptive suspension, so I can't say for sure how much of a difference there is. Could well be worth asking for a test drive in a non-Takumi RX to ascertain whether this is a deal breaker for you.

The main difference I think is that standard suspension mode in the adjustable models is same as standard car, but it can then be made firmer either in normal  or eco mode (customize) or Sport + mode
