Standard (Triumph) 10 (deluxe) mine was plain grey. I started my engineering apprenticeship on below £5 a week so all I could afford. Could never get the HUD to work. Didn’t test the airbags but did fit seat belts which were a newish invention.

That doesn't sound bad, I can hardly imagine the car nowadays which I could have bought from 5 weeks starting salary... never mind insuring it... that alone would be good 3-4 months when I started working.

This is not so bad. Problem is that they put the steering wheel in the wrong end.

My most hated car designs are the boring ones. The hamburgers of McDonalds that nobody hates and nobody likes, the grey anonymous mice that nobody sees that do not draw attention that are the best sleeping pills seeing them is yawning.

The corollas, accords, passats, jettas, a4 estates, outlanders. Remove the badge and nobody knows what brand it is. Lazy design inspirationless and most likely the result of car clinics. Design a car ask 1000 people for an opinion and oh no! 200 do not like it, redesign and do it again. Compromise after compromise leading to utterly boring middle of the road musac anodyne cars that are mostly sold in a grey color.

I think the oft-used term from Pistonheads - "gopping" - applies here. Absolutely hideous.

So true. I always remember when James May referred to the Scorpio as "gopping" on a Top Gear episode that featured it 😆 Had me in stitches at the time.

It was a right munter, wasn't it? I remember the shame when my boss lent me his sort of burgundy metallic/pink 2.0 gopper auto to drive to Stoke from Peterborough for a meeting. I had to leave it on my drive overnight as I had an early start. The neighbours didn't talk to me for weeks. You could leave them unlocked though - hardly likely to get nicked.

completely incoherent design. front, middle section and rear do not talk to each other even seems to be made from different cars. Melted comes to mind.

beeing the top ford in the days they still had some street cred though!
