Strange noises.....

I'm wondering if anyone has experience anything similar. The car will be stationary and on Battery power (parked up), when the engine kicks backs in there's a mechanical creaking noise (sounds like a stiff valve or hinge). After a creak or two the engine kicks in and runs fine. A few months ago I cleaned the EGR pipe but this made little improvement, other than improving the MPG.

Most of the crap is around the valve itself and not the pipe. If you unplug the connector and remove the 2 screws on the black plastic cover, does the rod move in and out freely or stick?

Do you get any vibrating? I did before I cleaned the EGR valve.

Thanks for your reply. The car does vibrate/rough idle. The pipe was gunked up, I would say 25% of the flow must have been reduced.

Is this a design fault of the valve, is it worth replacing the EGR valve for a newer part? I need to check rod!

Have a read of this thread with some photos I took of mine. That's also reminded me I said I'd do a how to but haven't had time. I've had no issues since cleaning the valve, and if your pipe was bad I'd imagine the valve itself will be worse.
