Gov. website says it is BLUE. Taxed and MoT . Looks silver to me.

When I sold my 2005 RX the rear brake backing plates were very badly rusted through. Worth having a look at those.

They are expensive to replace - £250 each I have been told!

It is actually the darker blue, mine is the lighter blue which is called grey on the V5!

Hi Members,

i have had my Lexus RX 300 for 191,000 miles.it has served me well and I want to buy a used RX 300. I have found, what I consider a to be a too good to be true used car. It is a 2005 and only done 39000 miles. However, I went to see it today and apart from a few minor scuffs it looks in mint condition but, the service history is only up to 2013 . The mot is valid up to 2021, but according to the service history the mileage was 31000 in 2013 and now it is 39000 but no service history since 2013 or proof of MOT’s in between. Also the central locking does not work and the garage say it just needs a new battery and it is sold as seen. As a new battery costs around £2.00 I’m a little suspect as to why they have not replaced it to prove the central locking works. I know this can be expensive. I have suggested an AA report and they told me the AA will probably not inspect it as it’s too old. I’ve contacted the AA and they say they can inspect any car. Apart from my own concerns as to the validity of the mileage could anyone tell me why the programming of the key may not work apart from the obvious faulty battery ?

Did you have any more thoughts on it...?

I wondered too Piers.

The MOT History alone would have prompted me to look.

It was well equipped, in really good condition too and if he had followed your advice re the underside, i FEEL HE COULD HAVE got it for £500/750 less than asking price.

I’ve decided not to go for it. I’m going to look into the 400h

You will be happier with the economy of the 400h - just my view.

The batteries are covered for 15 years, subject to an annual hybrid health check. The health check covers you for 1 year or 10,000 miles whichever is first.

The health check is part of the service at a main dealer or if you get your cars serviced at an independent you can get the check donr for £59.

So with a last of the line 400h (2009), you could cover yourself for another 4 years. I'm sure the batteries don't just stop working after 15 years, don't tend to hear of many issues.

I have recently bought a RX 400h, admittedly with a low mileage. The traction batteries on these cars seem to work really well as they are being charged and discharged without completely running the Battery down. The electronic Lexus wizardry is amazing and tends to be very reliable. As I have mentioned previously, I think you will be pleased with the economy over your old RX 300. They are not quite as economical as the 450h but I find doing around 30 mpg in a wonderful V6 with a super smooth CVT gearbox with plenty of umph if you need it is very acceptable. They drive totally differently to the 300 but I would be surprised if you do not like driving it. Do take a test drive to make sure a hybrid is for you. I have no issues with driving either car to be honest. Do remember that the 400h is not a true 4x4 like the 300. We rarely get snow down here in the deep south, when we do we think it is Christmas!

Thank you spacewagon 52. That is good to know. We tend to get a lot of snow as we live in the county but I think we will manage .
