Hi,

I took my wheels to be refurbished today and after taking the tyres off the rims they came to me with one of the rims with the tyre sensor inside broken. The plastic was cracked right across just over the the bit with all the tech (or the bit that looks a bit like 2 batteries side by side).

They claim it was like that when they took the tyre off but that’s rubbish as it would have been in pieces rolling around on the inside of the tyre and it would have raised an error on the dash. They just weren’t careful when removing.

I claimed for a failed sensor on warranty last year and they told me out of warranty it would have cost £200 to repair.

I’m going to try and get them to sort it out but are there any cheaper options anyone knows that I can use to sort this out?

Thanks

Ken

£67 from Lexus Parts Direct. Tricky part is programming it as you will need Techstream or some specialist TPMS software to do so. Maybe buy it and note the pairing code on the sensor and get Lexus program it? https://www.lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-is/lexus-is-phase-iii-2013-present/lexus-is-3-brakes-transmission/lexus-is-phase-3-tyre-pressure-monitoring-sensor-and-fitting-kit-2/

I think Tpms warehouse can pre programme the sensors for you with the original ident. Have a look on their website.

I paid £52 at my local tyre centre and that included fitting and programming(cloning)
Many tyre centres now have the vilify to do it at a far more reasonable price than main dealers and they dont need dealer style equipment either

Supply, fitting and programming?

Or just fitting and programming?

I think 3rd parties being able to do it has become much more common - when I got my tyres replaced last month I noticed that Costco had a display of different tpms sensors

Thanks for all your responses guys.

Went to pick up the wheels today and in the end it looks like they're willing to pay Lexus to do it - so happy days. But at least this thread will help other people avoid paying those extortionate prices.

Cheers,
