I've just bought a 2009 RX450h and the first job j need to do is fit a towbar.

I intend fitting the Witter one as it avoids cutting the bumper but my query regards fitting the electrics.

On YouTube I saw a video of a 2910 US spec which has a white connecting plug on the loom under the right hand boot trim panel. I haven't taken my boot apart yet so I'm hoping someone can tell me if my 2009 UK model is likely to have the same plug.

If so what are the pinout details. If not what are the loom wire colours that j need to connect to.

There seems to be a wide variety of prices between model specific and non specific wiring kits but none of them have details of the connecting method.

Any advice welcome. Dave

Here is the installation manual for the dealer fit tow bar. Looks like at step 31 you disconnect the existing wiring junction point and install the wiring adapter/cabling that come with the kit.

I got a Westphalia detachable from PF Jones and they fitted it on my drive, I think no matter which you buy you will have to cut the bottom of the bumper (undertray). There is a dedicated wiring loom with a bypass unit which is required. All the work is done in the boot. I've added pics of the loom and location. As far as I know there is no break-in connector in the rear of the car. Westphalia is the Lexus OEM fitting.

With the Witter bar you have to cut the under tray of course but not the bumper.

Is that the same as the Westphalia?

The break-in connector is interesting, I wonder if Westphalia sell the electric kit separate from the tow bar.

I have Westphalia electrics with witter Bar from pf Jones, took half a day and yes you still have to cut into the loom to fit the cut outs for fog lights and couple more.

Thanks that's interesting, though in truth I'm not sure why I would want to inhibit the fog lights just because I'm towing.
